US responsible if Daesh terrorists flee into Syria: Iraqi PM

Oct 18, 2016

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has called on the US-led coalition, which is allegedly providing air-support in the battle for Mosul, to stop Daesh terrorists escaping the city and relocating in Syria.

"It is the responsibility of the coalition to cut the road to Syria for Daesh," he was quoted on Iraqi television as saying on Tuesday.

He also announced that Iraqi forces engaged in the battle have been ordered to avoid operations that may harm civilians and to secure them safe passage out of the city.

Abadi made the remark after the Syrian army’s General Command warned that the supporters of international terrorism are attempting to secure safe passage for the terrorists into Syria, which has been dealing with a foreign backed conflict since March 2011 -- a crisis that reportedly has claimed the lives of 400,000 people.

US, Saudi malicious scheme

In a Tuesday statement, the Syrian army warned of a “malicious scheme” by the US and Saudi Arabia to provide safe routes for the groupings of Takfiri terrorists, who are fleeing the offensive against the city.

It warned that Damascus regards any attempt at crossing into its borders as “an attack on the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic,” stressing that those who attempt to do so would be regarded as terrorists and would be dealt with accordingly.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that Moscow may take "political and military" decisions if the Daesh terrorists were redeployed to eastern Syria.

“I hope the US-led coalition, which is actively engaged in the operation to take Mosul, will take it into account,” he said. "As far as I know, the city is not fully encircled. I hope it’s because they simply couldn’t do it, not because they wouldn’t do it. But this corridor poses a risk that Daesh could flee from Mosul and go to Syria."

Last week, Russia's RIA Novosti news agency quoted an unnamed diplomatic source as saying that the US and Saudi Arabia had agreed to grant Daesh terrorists free passage from Iraq’s Mosul on the condition that they relocate to the eastern regions of Syria.

The source said the plan seeks "to discredit the success of the Russian Air Force. And, of course, it’s an attempt to undermine Syrian President (Bashar) al-Assad.”

Iraqi government troops, together with Sunni fighters and Shia forces from Popular Mobilization Units, and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, are currently involved in a massive offensive to liberate Mosul, the last major Daesh stronghold in Iraq.

Still waiting for mother of all battles.

Forgive me for being skeptical. These tribes are famous for beating their chests until one side demonstrates superior strength. The weaker opposition then melts into the night and the wider population.

ISIS will re-emerge under a different name based on the same religious doctrine. The Koran is infallible and Mohamed talked to the archangel Gabriel.

Qu'rect.

It's not just religion, but Arabs prefer to be funded by a rich benefactor so they can walk around with guns in their hands for a 'cause' rather than work solidly in a factory every working day of the week.

For the most part it's a Life-Style choice for a large percentage of them who don't have access to Centrelink offices in Western countries.

Daesh stockpiling chemicals in Mosul: UN

Nov 11, 2016

A UN official says Daesh terrorists are stockpiling ammonia and sulphur in civilian areas, possibly for use as chemical weapons, in Mosul amid an Iraqi army operation to retake the city.

UN human rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said on Friday that Daesh had executed scores more people around Mosul this week. They included 20 civilians shot dead for leaking information and one man for using a mobile phone.

Iraqi troops found a mass grave with over 100 bodies in the nearby town of Hammam al-Alil earlier this week.

Shamdasani said the mass grave is one of several Daesh killing grounds, citing information gleaned from sources on the ground including a man who played dead during a mass execution.

According to Shamdasani, teenagers or young boys with explosive belts are being deployed in the alleys of Old Mosul, while abducted women are being "distributed" to accompany Daesh convoys.

The battle to retake Mosul, the Takfiri group’s last major bastion in Iraq, is now in its fourth week.

Shamdasani said Daesh had announced that it had beheaded six of its own militants for deserting the battlefield near Mosul.

On Friday, troops of Iraq's elite Counter-Terrorism Service resumed their offensive on the streets of Mosul after several days of relative quiet.

One commander said his forces have begun the attack on Arbajiyah and clashes were ongoing after the first row of buildings in the area was seized. Troops were also to begin another attack to retake the Karkukli neighborhood.

Iraqi forces launched the huge offensive to retake Mosul on October 17, with federal and regional forces closing in on the city from three sides.

Pro-government paramilitaries later began an advance on the town of Tal Afar, which commands the city's western approaches, with the goal of cutting the Takfiri terrorists off from territory they control in neighboring Syria.

US airstrike in Mosul leaves 90 Iraqi troopers dead: Report

Dec 10, 2016

At least 90 Iraqi soldiers have lost their lives when fighter jets from the United States Air Force (USAF) mistakenly struck their position in Mosul as government forces and allied fighters are trying to flush Daesh terrorists out of the strategic northern city.

An Iraqi army source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Arabic service of Russia’s Sputnik news agency on Saturday that the airstrike had targeted soldiers from the 9th Armored Division of the Iraqi army the previous day, destroying eight infantry fighting vehicles as well as four Humvee military trucks. Some 100 soldiers were also wounded as a result of the attack.

On Saturday, the commander of Nineveh Liberation Operation, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, said in a press statement that Iraqi counter-terrorism forces had managed to free the entire neighborhoods of al-Qadisiyah and al-Morour in the eastern quarter of Mosul from Daesh.

Yarallah added that security forces had also raised the Iraqi flag over several buildings in both districts,
and inflicted heavy human and material losses on the terrorists.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) also stated that Iraqi F-16 fighter jets had carried out airstrikes on designated targets inside Mosul, destroying three bomb-making workshops and as many arms depots.

Iraqi army soldiers, pro-government fighters from Popular Mobilization Units, also known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha'abi, and Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched joint operations on October 17 to retake Mosul from Daesh terrorists.

The Iraqi forces’ advance has, however, been slowed down due to the presence of hundreds of thousands of civilians, many of whom are prevented from leaving Mosul by Daesh.

The United Nations says more than 82,000 civilians have experienced forced displacement in the wake of Mosul operation.

Mosul SOS: City strewn with corpses, children cry as jets fly over (RT EXCLUSIVE)

24 Mar, 2017

RT’s Murad Gazdiev inspected the bombed-out streets of Mosul to assess the impact of US-led coalition airstrikes targeting Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), who have been luring jets by climbing on the rooftops of the few buildings still standing.

Despite losing hundreds of soldiers every day to fierce battles with jihadists, the Iraqi Army continues the strenuous effort to liberate western Mosul, wiping out militants with an intensive air campaign as well as in clashes on the battlefield.

“We were ready and our moral was high. We destroyed ISIS here. We have liberated 70 to 80 percent of Mosul,” an Iraqi Army soldier told RT.

The bombing raids, which often do not distinguish between civilian and military targets, have resulted in heavy casualties, far exceeding the military losses. Luring warplanes to residential buildings so they will target the innocent has become a standard tactic of the jihadists.

“ISIS made us keep our door open, so they could get onto the roofs at any time. They even broke down the walls between houses so they could move around,” a local resident told RT.

“I don’t know why they were climbing onto our rooftops, whether it was to fight or to provoke airstrikes,” another witness said.

The suffering of civilians who have to endure the side-effects of the offensive on a daily basis has been immense.

“There was so much bombing, and so many deaths. Pieces of human flesh were flying in all directions. Add to that constant hunger and thirst,” an elderly woman told Gazdiev.

Children, the most vulnerable victims of the endless fighting, have been severely affected, both physically and mentally.

“There were so many killed in the airstrikes, rockets, and mortars… Our entire neighborhood is in ruins. There are maybe ten houses still standing. The children are traumatized. When the jets start flying, they start crying,” another woman said.

“It’s terrible. The kids can’t eat properly, they can’t drink properly. They’re devastated by what they’ve been through,” a middle-aged survivor told RT.

Many children have become orphans, losing their parents to war, and have to take care of their younger siblings.

Following the Iraqi military through an almost completely demolished residential neighborhood, RT’s crew filmed what was left from a building, now reduced to a pile of rubble, mixed with rotting corpses of dead ISIS militants.

Coalition air strikes are effective in killing jihadists – but they are just as deadly for civilians.

Iraq: 360° of destruction - west Mosul district left in ruins after airstrikes

Published on Mar 12, 2017

Several destroyed houses around Tal Alruman street, in West Mosul, were captured on a 360° camera, Sunday. The attacks were reportedly carried out by coalition forces who were targeting fighters from the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

According to the numbers given by neighbours and relatives, there were two houses with around 18 people inside and a third one which contained some 10 people that were hit. Some of the victims were found after the incident buried in rubble.
