Why are religious people "Cafeteria" followers?

For most religious folk they pick and choose which doctrine to follow, usually those that are in line with their own views.

So if this is the word of "god" why do they chose to ignore their god's word?

Shouldn't it be all or nothing?

But Chimp,
you either love people or you hate them.

What are you going to do when you go to Venus?

well done Jethro - that is a very good question that you posed in public.

Congratulations.

I will need to think deeply about my response - but as you know I don't have much time or posts left in this place of worship.

I may in fact run out of posts before I get the opportunity to respond to your spiritually magnificent question.

Well done mate

We don't need a particular religion [to get a 'pass' into the kingdom of God].

We need to learn to act ethically.

That is 'the whole of the law'.

We come here, as 'a clean slate', so to speak.

We don't know what reality is.

We can only make suppositions about what reality is, and about the nature and purpose of our circumstances here.

We have physical bodies, through which we have the means experience pleasure and pain.

Throughout our lives, we learn the many ways that we can try to experience physical pleasure and try to avoid physical pain.

Q.
Is pursuing physical pleasure the highest 'good' [i.e. for you] ?

'We're only human, we're supposed to make mistakes.'

We are here to choose, and to discriminate.

That is our sole purpose in being here, imo.

Everyone is seduced [corrupted] by this world.

Ecclesiastes 12:13
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

This was Jesus message to mankind.

Isaiah 55:6
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Dictionary;
discrimination = =
1 the action of discriminating against people.

2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Pleasure, or pain ?

Or understanding.

Proverbs 1:22
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Proverbs 3:13
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

All well and good. If you decide you can ignore certain passages don't go quoting bible passages to justify your stance.
