Retiring All Coal Fired Power Stations

Inquiry into coal power station closures

Federal Labor and the Greens will establish a parliamentary inquiry into retiring the nation's coal fired power stations.

Opposition climate change spokesman Mark Butler said the Senate inquiry would look into phasing out ageing stations, the case for planned closures and how to support workers.

"The government prefers to bury its head in the sand and pretend we can rely on dirty coal to power our prosperity rather than plan for inevitable closures," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fears the potentially deadly black lung disease can develop in open cut mine workers

There are fears the potentially deadly black lung disease has now spread to the open cut coal mining sector in Queensland.

Cool, couple nice big nukes will replace all the call and back up renewables: we do need a non–meteorolgical based power source.

Of course, Green only pays lip service to eliminating GHGs so will disparage nuclear without knowing a damn thing about it. He will spout “baseload solar” without any understanding of solar power generation.

Greens, neocons not envirosocialists. Not anymore anyway.

Yes. If it were one month old would be ageing.

Have you seen the list of PROPOSED coal fired stations?

So was a coal fired station retired or was one of the proposed ones cancelled?

Which one was retired?

Found it. Northern Power Station SA.

'Less than a year ago, Alinta Energy announced the station — which is the city's bigger employer — would close after the company struggled to compete with government-backed renewable energy.'

'"The reality is, the technology we are using here is old, the cost structures are high and there's no longer a place for us in the market," Mr Dimery said.

"It was inevitable. It is inevitable that more coal-fired power stations will close into the future."

The thread was about retiring, and then you brought the red herring of proposed to the table.
Make up your mind.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Correction. The thread was about closing (phasing out) ALL coal fired power stations.  Of course proposed new power stations don't fit the all closed meme. Wink
