Had SA had its own power generating capacity even the collapse of 22 towers would not have blacked out the entire state.  The wind turbines were not running because they are unable to deal with wind gust of more than 90kph, which occurred in that storm. This placed an extra load on the lines from Victoria which in turn shut down to avoid damage.  Had SA been running its own power stations and not been reliant on a limited capacity connection  from interstate the blackout would have been far less severe.

That bit you made up, there has been no mention of extra load causing anything. Wires going short circuit from tower crashes was the cause

Agree though SA needs at least one gas/coal powered station though and perhaps another interconnect

rubbish ..

at the time the safety switch tripped and caused the blackout, the turbines were running and they were generating power. You realise the wind isn't uniform across the whole state, right?

Tom Koutsantonis, the SA Energy Minister has stated that there are going to be threats to SA's energy security  due to it's high level of renewables dependency. Of course, Redneck and John know more than the Energy minister.

He also said that the blackouts would have happened regardless of how the power is generated.  Cheesy Cheesy

have you ever heard of a WHOLE STATE being blacked out before dna?>...

have you ever heard of a state losing 22 transmission towers before? Even during cyclone Yasi, Australias biggest storm, Qld only lost two towers.

one day you liberal fools might actually open your eyes to the real world .. I know it won't be today, but I'm hopeful that it'll happen one day

yasi wasnt the biggest storm in the world.....and I have never heard of anywhere being completely in darkness for hours..do to some wind......no matter what was thrown at them..why ALL these tower came down I do not know.......

but I do know they are ,or would be very vulnerable to the elements.... therefore no matter what.,.any govt that puts all its eggs in one basket......is not in my opinion a very good govt..

they shut down the States  Power Stations.. probably for votes. Cheesy Cheesy

I am sure that  works for you though. Roll Eyes

Gee, the transmission of electricity halts and the power generators aren't transmitting power.  Just how gullible are you, Belgarion?   Roll Eyes

"They" were a privately owned electricity supply company that decided it could not compete against cheaper, renewable energy generators, NOT the Government.   Roll Eyes

I wonder if the Band of Village Idiots and their esteemed leader, Pauline Hanson will make the same comments they did about South Australia's blackout about the current blackouts in NSW and Victoria caused by wild weather?

Surely all their coal fired power stations would have prevented that from occurring?   Roll Eyes

It must really be annoying to see your wishful thinking and outright denial refuted by facts  and figures.  Grin

renewable is dearer.. always has been..

the only thing making it cheaper are Tax Payer subsidies...

I live in Victoria and there's been no STATE WIDE blackout..

in a state that's been set up properly with base power you don't get that..

mind you.. the Dickhead Labor government here is trying hard to shut down our base power..

what will Victoria and South Australia do then for base power?
