A series of high power towers north of Adelaide came down causing the network to shut down to protect itself.

Yes that's the one, they have to get coal fired power from another state when there is no wind or sun.

Blame the Liberal Government which privatised South Australia's power generation and supply system, not the South Australian Government.

As was said, a billion tons of coal was not going to stop the wind blowing over power supply towers which would have carried the electricity to the users. Time to face reality. Have a go at the privatisers. Have a go at the electricity supply companies. Do not blame the renewable generators which were not responsible for what happened in the one in fifty year weather event. Roll Eyes

have you ever heard of a state losing 22 transmission towers before? Even during cyclone Yasi, Australias biggest storm, Qld only lost two towers.

Had SA had its own power generating capacity even the collapse of 22 towers would not have blacked out the entire state. The wind turbines were not running because they are unable to deal with wind gust of more than 90kph, which occurred in that storm. This placed an extra load on the lines from Victoria which in turn shut down to avoid damage. Had SA been running its own power stations and not been reliant on a limited capacity connection from interstate the blackout would have been far less severe.
