Yeah, I watched a bit of that yesterday.

Baldwin does a great impersonation of the bloated old orange douche bag.

Classic.

Trump's antics last week with Twitter could not have been more L Ron Hubbard if L Ron himself was in Trump's place.

Also, these antics of Trump's could not have been more tuned for farcical comedy if Larry David and Woody Allen had collaborated and scripted it.

Saw that bit... The end (HUUUGE) reminded me again of poor old Darrell Eastlake.

A quote from Russell Miller's biography on L Ron Hubbard ('Bare Faced Messiah') which is as accurate a summary one-liner on Donald Trump's relationship with the truth as it was for L Ron Hubbard...

[One of Hubbard's favorite adages was] 'If  it's  not  true  for  you,  it's  not  true.'  It  aligned  with  [Hubbard's] own  personal  philosophy,  Hubbard  explained,  'because  if  there  is  anyone  in  the  world  calculated  to  believe  what  he  wants  to  believe it is I'. Never did L. Ron Hubbard [nor would Trump, were he to use it] speak a truer word.

Trump's statements :

    True                        (4%)
    Mostly True              (11%)
    Half True                  (14%)
    Mostly False              (18%)
    False                        (35%)
    'Pants on Fire'           (17%)

Another Trump parallel with an American public figure appears in the NYT's characterisation of Trump's existential angst...

It was (in part at least) a characterisation that could have defined Nixon...
Politics is an effort to make human connection, but Trump seems incapable of that. He is essentially adviser-less, friendless. His campaign team is made up of cold mercenaries at best and Roger Ailes at worst. His party treats him as a stench it can’t yet remove.
    []
Imagine if you had to go through a single day without sharing kind little moments with strangers and friends.

Imagine if you had to endure a single week in a hate-filled world, crowded with enemies of your own making, the object of disgust and derision.
    []
Donald Trump’s life [] looks superficially successful and profoundly miserable. None of us would want to live in the howling wilderness of his own solitude, no matter how thick the gilding.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Shocking! Bill Clinton has a negro love child and had a secret cocaine adiction.

Keep spreading the word on Facebook, Matty. That could work.

What is it about the psychologically damaged, motor-mouthed salesman that so easily captivates Americans?

From religious holy-rollers/ cultists to their secular equivalent - the 'self-help' latter-day shamans - to (now invading) the Presidential election process (which started with ‘Neo-Christians’ turning their minds from the selfless love needed to be a true Christian to the - anti-Christian - notion of getting and holding of raw power).

Americans just do not seem to have the Kryptonite needed to resist and defeat the siren sales songs of these bizarre psycho-pathological demagogues until they’re wrecked on the rocks of inanity.

Seriously… So many Americans seem not only unable to resist ‘the call’, they seem pathologically unable to detach themselves from the ‘Peter Pan/ Alice in Wonderland’ idealism that these nutjob charismatics evoke, even when it’s clear that the line they’re racing towards isn’t the horizon, it’s a cliff edge.

Trump is a symptom of the Amerikan nightmare. I'm not sure why the would-be Australians here support such an agenda, but I hazzard race-hate has something to do with it.

They miss Trump's "positive" side completely - the aspirations to wealth and luxury, the self-help franchise, the puritan prosperity doctrine only Amerikans - the descendants of settlers and slaves - can ever fully get.

The negative agenda's easy. Ban them. Kill them.

Is that all there is?

A slavish obsession with all things American might account for this Australian support for Trump...

Americanism has invaded so much of anglophone cultures that we can imitate (often without a hint of irony or self-consciousness) accents from the Appalachian mountain area (when characterising stupidity or syncretic 'downhomeyness') or (what we imagine to be) 'black American gangster' swagger and speak (when characterising 'bad arse' bastardry!) etc...etc...

And its been going on since Elvis and shows no sign of letting up.

I guess, in the same way, some Australians have no sense of irony or self-consciousness when they display a fawning servility towards Trump/ Hubbard/ Tony Robbins personality types... Having talked themselves out of wondering if they're merely 'Amer-parroting'.

Trump's latest self-inflicted firestorm over the 'wire-tapping' farce (along with all the other paranoid tweet wars) is more proof that Trump and L Ron Hubbard are psychological twins.
