I have never been a sympathiser with a person who suicides. Never has it happened in my Family, but it has happened with the brother of an old school mate of mine. Mate was in the Army (now retired Major,) and his brother, John...killed himself while still in the Army. Not sure of his rank. Seems to be an issue needing investigation.

If they were shirkers, the military prisons would have more troops in them than the front lines.... that they do not is proof that the troops do tough it out. My experience is that it is hard to get troopers to actually voice their feelings and such - and when I've been in groups for PTSD re-programming, I've had doubts about those who do. they seem too practiced to me, and I know some who are.... but it's a game to get a pension for some, which I do not deny them or criticise them for.

The fact that they have to 'learn their lines' shows how piss-poor the real handling of the very real issues is.

I will soon be working for the Sub-Branch and the Veterans - after I finish renos to suit the disabled ex - and I can assure you I will not be criticising any man (or woman) who comes in. I've known men who went to Rwanda, one Infantry and another a commissioned officer in Nursing Corps - they were both in a bad way, regardless of the fact that they did no experience direct combat as such, but saw many things.

Any Digger who can get past the temple dogs - the guardians at the gate - is all right with me, and this country owes Active Service men and women a life back home.

Not enough politicians and senior public servants commit suicide.
Nowhere near enough, I think a figure of ......oh...say around 80% would be acceptable, but 99% would be ideal.

But seriously.
The ADF and our wonderful narcissistic politicians and bean counting public servants care nothing for anyone but themselves.
They expect our soldiers to go off to wars that they them,selves are too cowardly to fight, expect them to put their lives on the line and then come back as normal people at the end of it all.

This is not like a video game people.
They suffer hardships we couldn't dream (or nightmare) about.
They see death and suffering of their comrades, the enemy and innocent people and children.
Any normal person, some members of this forum excepted, would be mentally scarred for life.

But what does Govco do, they ignore the problem and hope it goes away.
Govco refuse to provide help and simply sit back and wring their hands and cry crocodile tears while they count their perks.

Perhaps the Army needs to give Govco a kick in the arse and get them to realize that there is a problem.
Perhaps a few shots at politicians from a sniper would make these vegetables realize that other people in this world matter not just them.
