For what reason??
Next in line is wool.
PETA calls wool the new furThe British arm of animal rights organisation PETA is shifting its attention from fur to wool with a scathing opinion piece that directly references Australian wool production.
“Previously, many people who would never have touched fur continued to wear wool because they mistakenly believed that animals don't have to be killed or harmed in order to produce it,” writes Elisa Allen, director of PETA UK. “But the time for ignorance is over.”
The article refers to videos by PETA documenting animal cruelty. “In what looked like scenes from a horror film, the investigative footage shows workers as they stomp and stand on sheep's heads, violently punch them in the face, and hit them on the head with electric clippers and hammers,” Allen says. “It's truly the stuff of nightmares.”
Australian Wool Innovation, the organisation behind The International Woolmark Prize which has welcomed the likes of Victoria Beckham, Diana von Furstenberg and Donatella Versace as judges, has responded by drawing attention to advances in animal welfare and wool production.
