I am sure we had our share of pickpocket in 2000...

pickpockets?
a media tent had two bullets fired through it while the media was inside, a media bus had two windows shot out as it was transporting media to an event ... this isn't a case of a few pickpockets

oh shock horror.....what I am trying to say is if that happened in America or AUstralia the media would shut it down.. here its all highlighted gleefully...

what did we expect from such a poor nation.??????..

they have done a great job ... and all aussie do is carry on about something that really is probably an every day occurrence in Rio..

which is never on out TV sets... until a few aussies happen to be over there...

I just say dont dwell on the negatives look at the positives.. what so bad about that...

seems to me all some folks do is talk negative and seem to be pleased with it..

FFS that's exactly why they shouldn't have been given the games.

These are our best athletes ... not bloody soldiers

they should not be put in harms way to facilitate a 3rd worlds countries ambitions

or numpties like you watching from the safety of your lounge room

you crazy cat lady you  Angry

Surely the Olympic Village is up to scratch?

ONLY one more Gold to be attained in the Pool?

Then we get onto the REAL Olympics .... track and field.

yes fingers crossed the aussie smashes the 1500.......

I think its been amazing watching Phelps.. it was like watching Thorpie in his prime.... untouchable...really... at 31.. well done...

do you think we have anyone up to standard on the track nef??? its hardly been mentioned.. an d the hurdler is out..Sally Pearson... who else is there?

Michael Phelps was just 15 when he began swimming ... 2000 Sydney, I think.

The problem with Aussie Media and the Olympics is that we get bombarded with the SWIMMING .... we do ALSO have some excellent Field and Track athletes ....  I always like watching the Triathlon .... and the Decathlon ... even the Cross Country thing (on horses).

I thought our girls did well to get GOLD in the "footy" ..... whatever that was. LOL

Hockey, I used to play .... "we" used to be great at that in the Olympics.

The Boomers -v- The Dream Team ....

Then comes the water sports (in boats) ......... love that stuff.

Exactly.

It's a case of 'Why-not-me-too' Class envy of which gandalf appears to be a champion and sponsor.

93% of Brazilians are employed, and it's up to them to do something OTHER than 'crime' to better themselves, but with most of them being Negroes I suppose that's a big 'ask'.

I'm tired of Blacks bitching and whining about the wealth of white Western nations and how it's not fair.

No problem ... enjoy

but our athletes have been put into inferior accommodation, they have been subject to robbery, they have refused to swim in dodgy /murky training/diving pools.....

all things that threaten their health & well being

do they have to be shot at, shot or kidnapped to meet

your criteria of seriousness?

And you know this?  How?

Every Olympics is an "unknown" and the country has to go with this absolute CRAP.

Remember how Sydney Olympics was going to be a HUGE FAILURE ?

I think that Brazil should start handing out FREE tickets for seats ...... Brazilians yelling for Go AUSSIE might be good.  Grin

Rabid nonsense.

Unemployment is under 7%, and it's the 9th largest economy in the world.

I hope those Socialists and Communists who are protesting that not everyone is poor as evidenced by the Games - get grabbed off the streets and 'disappeared'.

I can't stand 'class envy'.

Brazilions are rightly outraged that their government spent a gazilion dollars for this capitalist extravaganza that will not pay any dividends to the local economy - and will in fact set it back a pretty penny - money that could have gone into schools and hospitals.

In that case we in Australia would be protesting on the streets every day of the year about government misspending and the millions that are denied our hospitals and schools because of 'Foreign Aid' and the ridiculous amounts that are spent on appeasing the Aboriginal Victimhood Industry (AVI) and other 'feel-good' extravagances.

So who granted them the games?

The Brazilians didn't grant it themselves

Yes it was a stupid & corrupt decision

considering the poverty in that country

but how is this to be prevented in the future?

Goldman Sachs named Brazil one of the four fastest growing economies in 2001 as part of their BRIC fund.[3] Brazil has experienced significant growth and development in the last decade. The country was affected by the latest global economic downturn, but it was one of the last countries to experience recession and the first to recover. Brazil is slightly larger than the United States, and is very rich in natural resources. The country leads South America and Latin America in terms of growth and economic status, and is currently among the 10th largest economies in the world. In the past, extreme poverty and income inequality plagued the country; today, the middle class is beginning to expand, thus decreasing the large disparity of wealth.[4]

Dirk Van Tichelt probably didn’t envision one of the greatest days of his life ending in the hospital. But that’s exactly where the Belgian judoka found himself Monday night hours after winning his first-ever Olympic medal.

Van Tichelt won bronze in the 73-kg judo competition on Monday. Naturally, he went off to Copacabana Beach that night to celebrate the achievement. And that’s where things went awry.

Van Tichelt was reportedly assaulted by a thief on the famous beach, and was struck in the face. He was taken to the hospital after the incident.
