An incalculably worse decision to promote Rudd.

I find it funny that Shorten and Plibersek, are trying to turn this into a party political issue.  I can remember not so long ago when both parties wanted to see the back of him and Labor killed him off as PM and replaced him because he wasn't up to it and lets not forget all the nice things that were said of him at the time.
Most recently Garrett called him a megalomaniac, and Keneally called him a psychopathic narcissist...  even suggesting her dog would do a better job. So who are labor kidding...?

What does that say about the ALP? He's not good enough to lead this country or their party but he's good enough to lead the UN?

ding dong   neddy!

they probably think it will keep their names out of his book.... Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin... anyway now he will have to spend his own money on buying the job..

hilarious...the UN is the world most expensive white elephant....it hasnt stopped starvation it hasnt stopp child porn.. it hasnt stopped kidnap[ping or wars...

all its done is build temples for the already rich and fat and exclusive..........a very barren temple. Angry Angry

Why do we have to have one?
Why not? We have before (H. V. Evatt).
Why do we belong at all?
We always have. We were one of the countries who got it started.
It's a waste of time & money
Only nationalistic right-wingers believe that. And they're wrong (again).

Well, while we do belong (and no Australian Government will withdraw) why not have one of ours as Secretary General?  It would raise our international profile, and provide entry into places of influence, at least.

Nah, Turnbull, for petty, pathetic, party political bullshit would rather we not even have a candidate for the UN to consider.

Bad decision.

Why do you think it's great to have an Australian SG? Australia already has a voice internationally through multiple offices. Our PM, our minister for foreign affairs, our seats on various international groups, our ambassadors, and of course the UN itself.

The beauty about all these is it they all speak with one voice. They only say what represents the Australian position on international issues. Would Rudd do that? I could easily imagine the Australian  PM saying one thing only for Rudd coming out the next day and saying the complete opposite in his position as SG. Rudd is not going to respect the Australian position as his ego and need for attention would not let him put Australia first.

Of course, as SG it would not be his job to put Australia first, but if he were SG, that he is Australian, would have added to our international profile.  If you can't see that, there is nothing I can say which will open your eyes.

The people in the UN know where Australia is on a map. We don't need to raise our international profile.

You are seriously overrating the importance the position of SG has for the nation of the one holding that position. Just like you are over stating what people will think of Australia because we didn't support Rudd. This is nothing more than the "Australia is the laughing stock of the world" BS that floods social media every time Australia does something that the leftwing-fag loving-tree huggers don't approve off. Nothing but Australia hating over emotional shlt.

An opportunity to change all that was snuffed by petty, pathetic, parachial, party political, pouting pique.

"Your" turn will come Turnbull.  The ALP has a very long memory, and never allows a free hit.

And Rudd fights back with documentary evidence given to Laurie Oakes.  It seems Turnbull may have lied to Parliament, after Rudd wrote to him  on the 3rd April, this year, announcing his intention, seeking endorsement.  Later, Turnbull told Parliament there was no 'live' candidate, or similar.  Source is Ch 9 News, just now.

Expect big trouble, Turdfull.  I can see the Shadow AG Dreyfus preparing an onslaught when Parliament returns.  He will nail Turdfull.

This will cause serious trouble.  Well done Rudd.  Even out of Parliament, you can nail these amateurs.

Best news so far today.
Really thought Turnbull would give him the nod

So did I. What a surprise.

I would have bet $100 on it.

But isn't Turnbull the one who publicly scoffed at Abbott when he made a 'Captain's call' over something?

Apparently Turnbull explained to Rudd over the phone why he didn't think he's suitable for the job ... and we know Rudd likes to throw tantrums with lots of rich Anglo-Saxon expletives. He must have been absolutely apoplexic at the other end of the line ... and yes, Turnbull refused to meet him in person.

Grin

Chickens coming home to roost.

But then this flushed Julie Bishop and Brandis out of the bushes as supporting this Far Leftwinger who together with Gillard notched up a staggering 50,000 illegal immigrants to make landfall on Australian soil.

Excellent comments, Quantum.

Yep after this:

"Former Victorian premier Steve Bracks has been sacked from his position as Australia's consul-general in New York – before he officially started in his new role –  in a decision described as ''petty and vindictive'' by Labor."

"To axe Steve Bracks from this position simply because he is not a Liberal really does Julie Bishop and Tony Abbott no credit at all - it is petty, it is partisan, and it is not the sort of national leadership that Tony Abbott promised,’’

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/federal-election-2013/former-victorian-pr...

I know it's just politics, but i hope the Coalition don't scream too loudly when an eventual Labor Government recalls all Coalition appointments - especially the useless Hockey!

Well, well....Turdfull is stuffed.  Read the letters.  I was wrong about one date.  It was not the 3rd April...'twas the 4th.

Link.

But, if after that date, Turdfull told Parliament that there was no potential candidate, he is a phhucking liar, and it may cost him confidence on the floor of the HoR.  Make no mistake, numbers are wafer thin, and something like this can undo him.  You can bet Labor and Drefus will be all over it.  (Of course, that does not even address Turdfull's duplicity, and deception.)

Rudd is meticulous on detail, and these letters are typical.  It is a good lesson to learn.  Whenever you have a relevant (non personal) conversation with someone, always follow up with a letter referring to it....and include the expression, as Rudd did, "You will recall saying......"  Unless there is a reply challenging, what you have put in your letter will have weight if there is some later denial by the other party.

Bewdy Rudd.  "Get" this areshole grub PM.
