Linda Burney off to a great start

Federal election 2016: ALP candidate Linda Burney fails to declare NSW house because she ’didn’t know’ she owned it

A HIGH-PROFILE Labor candidate in a key marginal seat has been caught out failing to fully declare their property interests in parliament on the eve of the election.

Land titles obtained by the The Daily Telegraph confirm Barton candidate Linda Burney owns a three-bedroom home on a 2000sq m block in her hometown of Whitton, which she failed to declare during a 13-year stint in NSW parliament.

Ms Burney, who had previously served as NSW deputy leader of the Opposition, claimed she wasn’t even aware she owned the property until informed by The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

I wonder if she will forget to collect her pay every Thursday? She might have to add a reminder to her mobile phone "Hey, it's pay day stupid".

she was a co owner ... the house belonged to her adoptive family ...

it's feasible that the biological kids may have kept her out of the loop in the hope that she would never realise ... it's not the first time families have tried to screw each other over an inheritance, especially if she was adopted and the others weren't

Don't be an idiot. A title deed is a title deed.

And how could the Telegraph know but not her??  Er... they looked it up: http://www.lpi.nsw.gov.au/land_titles/public_registers/general_register_of_deeds

Aboriginal disadvantage writ large.

I believe Ms Burney....What would she have gained by not declaring the property???

Quote:
It is understood the property was Ms Burney’s childhood home and she inherited it from her great-aunt and uncle.

It is believed that relatives of Ms Burney’s are living in the property free of charge. Located about 580km west of Sydney, the home is also co-owned by another family member and is estimated to be worth about $120,000-$160,000.

So? Maybe she took her families word for it and they lied?

Public information is only useful if you know to look for it.  I know I've never bothered to check the register of deeds to see if I have any properties I am unaware off.

Ms Burney is fond of junkets as well.

Minister rapped for Cannes 'junket'

NSW Fair Trading Minister Linda Burney is under fire for rubbing shoulders with celebrities in France while hundreds of NSW families wait nervously to learn the impact of a construction company collapse.

Ms Burney has been on a taxpayer-funded trip to the Cannes International Film Festival in France, on behalf of the Arts Minister Frank Sartor.

She was there to announce the new $60,000 Sydney Film Prize, which will be part of the Sydney Film Festival.

But the state opposition says it is an inappropriate time for the fair trading minister to be overseas, following the collapse of NSW builder Beechwood Homes.

The company was last week placed in voluntary administration.

Opposition fair trading spokeswoman Catherine Cusack said Ms Burney should be back in NSW helping the 300 families and the countless tradesmen affected by the collapse.

"It's a junket," Ms Cusack said.

Another snout in the trough. Why is it that only parasites make it into Australian politics?
