Australia >< dispute in South China Sea
Jul 21st, 2016 at 7:15pm

I have recently read news reports accusing China for rejecting the decision of the arbitration initiated by the Philippines, and other actions of China in South China sea. Our Foreign Minister also officially condemned China about the matter. I would like hear what other Aussies think about the issue.

You mean like China is just one of a number of nations with claims to the area. But with China might is right. Of course China is not going to accept the courts decision, the decision went against it.

The 'The Hague' or whatever it is biased towards the west and 'developed' economies and it no longer has any credibility or real power since our leader state the USA is too weak to enforce its rulings. Where is this powerful coalition that USA promised us that would be punishing China if China did not accept the 'The Hagues' decision? China see's the Philippines as a protectorate of the USA and that is exactly what it is. Most in China are blaming the USA for the outcome and many are boycotting US companies over the ruling. The only reason Australia cares about this issue is because our government does pretty much whatever USA tells it to do. The only reason this area is such an important shipping lane is because of the Chinese economy and USA has little to do with it. China is easily Australias largest trading partner and it is foolish to allow the USA to pressure us into confrontations with China over such a non-issue. At the end of the day Israel makes claims to their land because of historic claim and with the South China Sea it is China that is clearly the nation with the historic rights to the South China Sea. China has ancient maps and records to prove their claim. There is no good reason for Australia to put our economy at risk by supporting the USA on this issue.

Have any of you had a look at the map of the area claimed by China, they are drawing a very long bow claiming it all.

Stuff China, they should abide by the umpires decision like all good world citizens.

You mean "developed" as in the IPCC as per the Paris Agreement, where China is undeveloped? Where would that put Taiwan, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines?
