I have a Muslim friend and that's how she always explained it to me when she lived here.  She lives in Sri Lanka now and was a spokeswoman for President Garoom's Ruling Party during the Maldivian election several years ago. 

So, to me, she's as Muslim as they come and should know what she is talking about.
