David Cameron resigns

David Cameron resigns after shock Brexit result

British Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned after Britain voted to leave the European in a result that shocked many.

I was absolutely clear about my belief that Britain is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union,” he told reporters outside of 10 Downing Street as markets opened to the tumultuous news.

Cutting & running instead of staying to lead his country in a difficult time.
So not only duplicitous but spineless.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

Yes - just when Britain needed a strong leader he resigns.

He's a poor leader & not worthy of being PM.

He should just suck it up, accept the umpires decision, and make the most of it, what a wanker, he won office himself in a landslide, its not a rejection of him or his party.

Being an obviously strong proponent of remain how could those who voted to leave have any confidence in his negotiations now with the EU?

These pricks are unreal aren't they?, all he had to do was accept the will of the people and do their bidding, thats what he was elected to do, he could have made himself a real statesmen out of it all and covered himself in glory, instead he just proves to everyone that he doesn't really give a f#ck about the rank and file, all he cares about is those wankers in Brussels.

I thought Cameron was just keeping his word? Didn't he say that he would resign if Brexit got through? Something like that anyhow.

He said that more than 12 months ago, and did not link it whatsoever or in any way to Brexit as you falsely asserted.

Oh, he would have had the nod to stand down. Cameron's smart to go. He's leaving on his own terms.

Since I don't live in the UK and don't watch The ABC/BBC TV News I did read something in my online travels .... unlike you, I don't consider myself a smartarse and expert on World Politics ... I have better things to do .... I follow local politics and the Federal lot and that's about it.

Anyway, put a sock in it, I don't need a running commentary from you, arsehole arsie. Angry

And if the transition stalls in any way, who would the exiters blame if Cameron stayed in power?

Its not hard to imagine that Cameron's presence would be a destabilising factor from here on.

When you ask the people to decide by referendum an issue as significant as this in which a PM is fully committed to the losing outcome, that PM effectively loses his mandate to govern.

Resignation is the right and proper action to take when the people voted against his proposition.
