He said that more than 12 months ago, and did not link it whatsoever or in any way to Brexit as you falsely asserted.

Since I don't live in the UK and don't watch The ABC/BBC TV News I did read something in my online travels .... unlike you, I don't consider myself a smartarse and expert on World Politics ... I have better things to do .... I follow local politics and the Federal lot and that's about it.

Anyway, put a sock in it, I don't need a running commentary from you, arsehole arsie. Angry

Could anyone imagine that Cameron still has a mandate to govern after this?

He should just suck it up, accept the umpires decision, and make the most of it, what a wanker, he won office himself in a landslide, its not a rejection of him or his party.

And if the transition stalls in any way, who would the exiters blame if Cameron stayed in power?

Its not hard to imagine that Cameron's presence would be a destabilising factor from here on.

When you ask the people to decide by referendum an issue as significant as this in which a PM is fully committed to the losing outcome, that PM effectively loses his mandate to govern.

Resignation is the right and proper action to take when the people voted against his proposition.
