The report, withheld from Australia by the British government for 50 years, concluded that the behaviour of the Australians in the days before Singapore fell set a very bad example, conceding only they had been punished by heavy shell fire and a "rumour got about that they were to be evacuated and … they were near home and that home was under imminent threat of invasion"

"But the ignominy was compounded by the British historian Peter Elphick, who wrote in his 1995 book Pregnable Fortress that official files refer to damning indictments of the Australians, including "mass desertion, looting, rape and murder".

"There is no doubt that some Australians fought well but overall they performed badly and there is substantial evidence in these files to prove it," Elphick said at the time."

It was telling some time ago when Britain attempted to publicly advise India on a certain internal matter and was publicly rebuked by the Indian government in return, reminding Britain that it was a third rate power and that it had no interests in the matter.

The US has close relationships with many countries and they are currently forging even closer ties with India.

On the matter of US / UK sentimentality read up on how the US treated Keynes when he went to the US after the war fully expecting the US to forgive Britain's war debt and underwrite Britain's reconstruction. He got a rude shock. The US loaned them the money must to the fury and disgust of the House of Lords but they had no choice but to accept the US loan and terms. The last payment of this loan (agreed in 1946) was made on 29 December 2006.

The US doesn't care about 'how well we work together' necessarily... That is sentimentality... It only cares that it is good policy and is realistic to work with England...

When England has outlived its relevancy, the US will 'retire' the 'special relationship' and England's presence on the security council will one day be put to a vote.

the roman empire , the british empire , the holy roman empire, the french under napoleon, the prussians...europe has seen many empires come and go.

the EU (brussels) empire seems to have lasted only a bit longer then the 3rd reich.

It will all be back to nation states soon enough and so it should.

cattle might be born on one of 20 or 30 adjoining properties but no one thinks we just pull down the fences and let them roam about willy-nilly.
this might suit a few of the young cattle that want to go on a holiday in some distant paddock without having to go through any gates but it is just too chaotic.
Cattle belong on a certain property with their rightful owners and all the cattle farmers compete in a friendly manner but only a fool would tear down all the barbed wire and think any good would come of it.

So what's good policy and who is realistic to work with for France and the USA?

UK, who are a fellow NATO power, have one of the most effective (if not the most effective) intelligence agencies in the world, who still have one of the most powerful militaries in the world, is one of the biggest arms dealers in the world, is still the financial hub (the financial institutes of London) of the world, and for the USA, has seen eye to eye with you over every conflict for the last century.

Or...

India, who is rank with corruption, unpredictable, and who has done f all on the world stage from a security level.

No one in their right mind would think that France or the USA would prefer India to the UK on the security council. You must be an Indian yourself to think such nonsense (which would explain your anti English bigotry).
