Police are hunting for a man who allegedly assaulted a woman before fleeing with his 22-month-old daughter from a home in Port Augusta yesterday.

Police were initially called to a house in Port Augusta at 9.40am after reports of an alleged domestic assault.

Benjamin Austin is alleged to have assaulted a woman known to him before fleeing the house with his daughter, Akira, before police arrived.




Mr Austin is described as being Aboriginal and 169cm tall with a slim build.

He has brown eyes, weighs 75kg and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and grey track pants.

Akira is described as having dark curly hair, and was last seen wearing black pants and a white T-shirt.

Police hold concerns for the child’s welfare.
