Wildlife Food - What does it taste like

What have you eaten that is not farm produced, what did it tastes like?

I like to be a little adventurist and try new things.

Jellyfish

I went to China about 20 years ago when it opened to westerners.

I chose a seafood soup. It was tasty but it had this slimy thing in it.
It's texture was awful to me, hated it. No real taste. Asked what it was, Jellyfish in my soup.

So jellyfish once tried (I can tick the box) and never to be experienced again.

Alligator

When in the US I tried alligator about 4 times.

First 3 times I found it was tasteless and a strange texture. Didn't like it.

The last time it was full of garlic and was really yummy.

Conclusion, tasteless meat. Good with spice and garlic. It depends how it is cooked.

had it a few times in pub's that try to be up market.

Found it gamey but really liked it. Not as rich as venison but pretty good. not something I would eat regularly but a nice treat.

I ate it in Melbourne a few times, a few times in Munich in an aussie pub and somewhere else. I think it is more popular overseas than at home.

It is becoming more popular here with the trendies.  I wonder if they actually like it or whether they just believe it to be cool and 'trendy'?

A very old friend of mine actually brought it to the table of 'normal' Aussies.

I don't like gamey or rich meat.  I don't even like duck.  Too rich.

Wild Rabbit

Mother used to make rabbit stew using good old Keens curry (I miss Keens curry)
Used to go shooting and would cook rabbit over the fire or in alfoil.

Love Rabbit. Not too gamie. Great roasted or in a stew. can be a little dry.

Would choose it anytime.

I had to cook rabbit once for my dog.  Can't remember why but the vet put her on a white meat diet.  They were about $2 each at the time and tasted much like chicken.

I believe snake tastes like chicken too.

I would try snake.

Snake

I had snake in China, it does taste like chicken. I was the only westerner to try it that day... wimps.
It came in a soup with thin strips. Really good.

Cooked a snake we killed when on a boy scout survival camp. It was like eating the neck of a chicken.

Not much useful meat on a snake, at least not the Yellow Belly Black we ate that day.
