The UN convention states clearly that: The UN Refugee Convention (to which Australia is a signatory) recognises that refugees have a lawful right to enter a country for the purposes of seeking asylum, regardless of how they arrive or whether they hold valid travel or identity documents. The Convention stipulates that what would usually be considered as illegal actions (e.g. entering a country without a visa) should not be treated as illegal if a person is seeking asylum.

Even though, it is technically an "illegal act", they are not considered as having performed an illegal act.   The asylum seekers were detailed, Not because they have committed an illegal act, it is because, our law states that anyone arrived by boat, will be mandatorily detailed, for purpose of process their claims - e.g. health and background checks.   

So there is a difference.  Let me give you a few example:

1. A man arrives at Sydney airport, with no papers, and wanted to stealthly sneak his way in.  He then committed an illegal act.  So, he will be detained because of this illegal act. 
2. A man arrives at Christmas Island from boat with no papers.  But he declared that he is an asylum seeker.  Therefore under the Australian law, he have not yet committed an illegal act until or if his processing have failed.  He was detained because our current law states that anyone in his situation be mandatorily detained.

Australian is a signatory to UN refugee convention.  Until we pull out of it, then as far as Australia law is concerned, the boat people have not committed an illegal act until / if when their processing have failed.

Ian may well be playing "push/pull" a very good technique.

women are very emotional creatures and they are as addicted to negative emotions as they are to positive emotions. (more they like a "range of emotions").

this topic (assylum seekers) is something that many women like mothra get all hot about, NOT because they care about assylum seekers at all, but because they are addicted to the emotions that these sort of arguements cause to flow thru them.
they love the emotional drama , as it "wakes them up".

they dont really care if its Joseph Koni or palestine or Naru.  its just an excuse to feel "something" to break out of the Durrr state of the non contributing leftard.

Leftards need to go to a place of contribution as a way to reach a more stable place of higher consciousness.
They could volunteer to go out and help homeless people or do something practical.

But this does not give the buzz of a full on Us v Them emotional outburst and it requires effort and commitment.

gweg,  you have a good brain but you need to put it to use to achieve something more worthy then seeking little hits of stimulation from strangers on the internet.

i think this is why i associate with rightards (though i would consider buddhists and sherpas more spiritually enlightened).

becuase a rightard is generally someone who has gone thru brutal training and has come to realise that things dont happen "to" you, things happen "for" you.

to survive in business, you do have to grow into this emotionally more advanced mindset.

the mindset of the leftard is still very much, life it happening "to" me. i am a "victim" . i need to be a cry baby  about bullying or penalty rates or discrimination or minimum wage or police brutality or israel or border policy.....whenever i hear leftards talk on these topics, its just
