Trump will back away from every statement he's made in the primaries. He's already spinelessly apologizing with the message that this is how you do business: Trump's policy ideas are just opening bids in a negotiation.

The Mexican wall, the ban on Muslims, the penalties for abortions, the tariffs against China, the printing of more US dollars, the development of a nuclear arms program for Japan and South Korea, and on and on and on - all will be brushed aside as just opening bids in a conversation with the American people.

In other words, the straight-talking, pragmatic, no-nonsense anti-politics of Donald Trump will be revealed as just a cunning ruse in his bid for the presidency, and do you know?

People will still lap this up.

Oh, he's just railing against political correctness, he's just injecting a little light-hearted entertainment into the campaign. He's not a politician, so who cares if he breaks a few promises? They're not important anyway. What's important is jobs and growth. He's a businessman, shurely he'll deliver.

When he doesn't, everyone will complain about what a huckster he is. Trump will let almost everybody down. To counter this, he'll declare war in his first term and campaign on the importance of political stability for his second term. Okay, so he didn't deliver jobs and growth, but you don't change horses in a time of war.

If Trump gets in, and it's now looking like a distinct likelihood, this is how the next 8 years will go down, for these reasons:

1. The president his hands on very few economic levers.
2. The only real power a president has is Commander in Chief of the world's most powerful military.
3. The military is routinely used by presidents as an economic stimulus. When growth is slow (or even in depression), the US sends in the troops (and private contractors).

Sound familiar? It should. The business of Amerika is business. Trump may campaign on his ruthlessness, but he will be business as usual.

If Trump gets in, don't say you weren't warned.

If Trump can implement even half of what he's proposing then he's worth voting in. What's important here is the shifting of the 'Overton window'. Trump has already shifted it so he's done more already than probably any other politician in the last 40 years.
