Four people reportedly injured in knife attack at Munich train station
At least four passengers have been injured after being attacked by a knife-wielding man at a train station near the German city of Munich.

German media has reported the suspected offender was overpowered and arrested by police after the attack, which occurred at 5am local time (1pm AEST) at the station in Grafing.

Media outlet Bild reports police are verifying witness statements claiming the man was shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

A local police spokeswoman said authorities were working to identify the attacker, and that four or five people had been injured.

The spokeswoman added one of those wounded had suffered serious injuries.

One person has died unfortunately.

One person has been killed and several injured in a knife attack by a suspected Islamist at a railway station near Munich.

The suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is great”) as he started stabbing passers-by in the town of Grafing, to the south-east of the German city, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

The attack took place at around 4.50am on Tuesday and the suspected perpetrator was arrested shortly afterwards.

A newspaper delivery driver was stabbed in the back during the "indiscriminate" assault, a firefighter told the Merkur newspaper.

A spokesperson at the Bavarian state criminal investigation office told The Independent one of the victims was initially in a critical condition but died later in hospital.

Two railway stations in Munich were evacuated temporarily on New Year's Eve in an alert over an alleged suicide bombing plot by Isis supporters.

More than 800 German jihadists are believed to have joined the so-called Islamic State and other terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria.

Isis has also issued propaganda directed at supporters in the country, including one calling for them to travel to Syria or wage terror attacks at home.
