Cooler temperatures are finally on the way here in Central Queensland. It has been a long hot summer, but finally relief  - a forecast overnight temperature of 12 degrees for tomorrow and a daytime temperature of 26. It was 31 degrees here yesterday. That's far too hot for late May. It hasn't let out since October last year.

Winters are getting shorter.

And yet only 2 hours drive East of Melbourne it's below zero right now:

That's Melbourne.

Quote:
City: Melbourne
Cliché: Four seasons in one day
True or false: True

You know you’re in Melbourne when you need to pack a sun hat, warm coat, some sunscreen and an umbrella for a day out. The cliché goes that Victoria’s capital experiences four seasons in one day – and the truth? It really does.

Melbourne cops weather fronts from the mainland, the Southern Ocean and Tasman Sea making it a volatile location.

BOM senior forecaster Richard Carlyon said the ocean cold fronts can move quite quickly, which makes the weather changeable.

“What this means is that our weather … varies at lot between hot and cold, and dry and wet, but it keeps it interesting for our forecasters,” Carlyon told The New Daily.

“We are in the space of the cold fronts of the southern ocean so we are more susceptible to rainfall. Also we aren’t that far from Sydney and the east coast and we do get weather systems that develop in the Tasman Sea.”

This means Melbourne doesn’t have frequent, extended heatwaves like other states.

“The only thing Melbourne doesn’t have is hot weather in winter,” Mr Carlyon said.

Or as the BOM spokesperson in Perth said: “It’s bloody miserable there and that’s all there is to it.”

The Moral: If you really want to confuse people about climate, talk about the weather in Melbourne.

I wonder if Americans speak about it being below zero? They still use that antiquated Farenstein scale I think.

Yes, but I'm not the one quoting local weather to make the argument that "the ice age cometh". I'm just saying that my localised weather trumps your localised weather.  In other words, local weather, especially from such a highly variable location as Melbourne is great for making conversation, but an absolutely useless prediction tool for imaginary Ice Ages by corrupt US bankers in exile in Taiwan.

You might as well use my local weather. It's still useless, but a little less unpredictable than yours.

Dear John,
you make a fair point but
are you willing to apologise to: me, Lee & David DuByne
if Melbourne gets ice & snow this winter?
(We've only had a few frosts before.)

It's already very cold & it's only 3 days till winter.
Luckily my new place has ducted gas heating - so I'm prepared.

Gee, Big Jethro has John on the ropes with that last post.

I am not sure if John can gather enough moral and intellectual courage to respond. Maybe even with a collection of cunningly crafted non peer reviewed videos.

sadly I cannot post anything at all during my self banishment period which will be lifted once the next Federal election results are confirmed by the AEC.

I can't even post a single image let alone assist John with this challenging post by the Great Mr Sir Booby trap.

Yes, I was baited again to reply to a troll, but you must admit that he is a veritable master baiter.
