How many 4WD are driven by 4WD enthusiasts?

For that matter how many never leave the city streets. The hardest bit of 4WDing they do is drive up a gutter or two.

I realise that some people need to carry lots of stuff may need one, although a large station wagon would do as well.

I just find them a bloody pain in the arse blocking ones view when backing out of car parks or at intersections etc. I suspect their are a lot of collisions indirectly caused by them obstructing peoples view at intersections

Fair enough, but I live in a regional city where about 2 out of 3 vehicles are large SUVs.  Here it's the norm, and most people here also use them for accessing good fishing spots and 4WD'ing.  Judging from insurance premiums, I don't think we're more accident prone as a result.

I wasnt suggesting that 4WD were more accident prone, I was suggesting there may be other vehicles involved in accidents as a result of having restricted vision at intersections  being in lanes adjacent to the big 4WD, as one cant even see over their bloody bonnets.

I always always always get one of those SUVs parked next to me......always.... especially in a tight parking area......I park as far away as possible from any bloody truck size car...go off to the shops.. when I come back sure as god made little apples I have one on either side....talk about a slash their tyres moment...

I hate the buggers...some of them take up more than one parking space.....

4WD's are actually pretty hopeless at carrying stuff in the cabin. All the height you see on the outside is wasted on underbody clearance and poor cabin design. You will fit more in a good station wagon. Plus, you can put roof-racks on a station wagon without making it roll over if you do more than 10km/hr round a corner.

Yup for hardcore 4WDS but have a look at the newest softroaders. Higher than a wagon, nowhere near as high as a hardcore 4WD.

They sell because they're comfy and practical for families.

Do you class cars like the Territory or Kluger as a wagon or as a 4WD?

Traditional station wagons are getting harder and harder to find. Many models no longer have a station wagon as an option.

Booby cruises up and down King St quite a bit.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

When I drive thu Newtown with my daughter we used to play 'weirdo person' spotto but we had to change it to 'normal person' spotto.

I'd have thought in Newtown you'd get bashed for NOT wearing a dress.
