As I recall, the people I met, who might have been called hippies, did not call themselves hippies. It was more of disparaging remark by those who could not come up with a better insult. That group, who were the majority by a huge margin, were mired in pre-1965 conventions of respectable appearances. They included main stream suburbanites and narrow minded rednecks. It was all about personal appearance, and nothing to do with thought.

The predictable thing was that conservative  and redneck objections to those hippie appearances crumbled as soon as it was safe a fashionable.

Yes, if you're going to San Francisco be sure to avoid the tourist traps there. Be sure to avoid the overcrowding, the rudest, smugest people on earth, the ridiculous cost of living, the Tenderloin district, and most of all, the hippies.

The Donald tells it how it is . . .again:

Unemployment is not the 5% they tell you it is.
That's a figure to make the politicians look good.
It's more like in the 20s.
And the US is sitting on a stock market bubble and there is another recession on the way.
