ANy form of socialism? So universal healthcare, subsidised uni education etc?
Unless the user of these services pays a respectable share of the actual cost of the service, it's welfare-socialism. Getting services you haven't earned means, at a cost to someone else that did earn the costs, someone else has to pay for them.....that's socialism at it's finest.
Without a decent co-payment (50+%), eventually there will be more users than payers.....the incentive to earn will wane, & hello Greece ..... it's Déjà vu all over again.......it can't be avoided....can't be sustained long-term.....eventually that house of cards will tumble to the ground. Maybe not in most of our lifetimes, but it will come to pass nevertheless. Free Healthcare, & free secondary education is a misnomer....they are both rats that will chew at societies toes while they sleep.
That's about my feelings on it. I'm wunna dem despicable fence sitters who thinks there's good and horrendous points on both sides of politics.
I vote vaguely right these days but was a Labour voter until it changed from being the Workers Party to the Shirkers Party.
I'm a single white female self funded retiree so believe me, NO political Party gives a proverbial about me. I can't find a 'representative' political candidate for my niche at all.
So I vote for whoever is most likely to benefit No.1 'cos when it comes down to it if we take responsibility for ourselves then we'll have not only the right, but the means, to take care of those who fell through the cracks.
I do not believe that socialism, 'small a' anarchy, or any of the other lefty fantasy ideologies nor any of the ubiquitous 'isms', takes into account the default self interest imperative inherent in human nature.
But I'm rambling.. sorry ...
American politics has long been my circus of preference. It's a bellwether of where OZ could be heading.
I can't quite see either Clinton or Trump as real people, they're simply symbols of what people think politics is.
People (I hope) aren't seeing Trump as any type of political messiah leading them to prosperity. He's just the brightest (orange?) clown in the ring at the moment and appeals to the maverick in us all, it's simply not as strong in some as others.
He's a flick of the bird to our political puppet masters.
He's wishful thinking personified. So was Obama, and we've seen how well that's gone. So was Palmer here. He flamed out a lot faster than Obama who has just fizzled.
Does anyone really think Clinton represents anyone or thing beyond the Clinton bank account, or is she just wishful thinking too?
People are looking for Abe Lincoln but Abe's world is as dead and gone as he is. We need to take stock and realise that good guys finish last in politics now. That's the only way we're going to cope with them continually breaking our hearts.
