I think you are nit-picking. If point 1 is not socialism, there are a hellava lot of rightwingers calling Obama a socialist for nothing.
By Australian standards, it's not socialism, unless you want to call Tony Abbott a socialist. Apart from that, even under Dubya, the Yanks had some welfare.
Quote:As for point 2, Trump is a total asshole, but nobody can start calling him a loose cannon without applying that ruling to the warmongering pricks I mentioned.
The Yanks have had some loose cannons as President. I've mentioned a few of them already. Dubya would be on that list, along with Bill Clinton and JFK, but none of them would sink to the level of hypocrisy, ignorance and stupidity of Don Trump. Isolationism is a disastrous economic policy. Pulling out of strategic initiatives such as NATO (and probably ANZUS) is paving the way for these countries to form alliances that would ultimately damage US interests.
Probably the worst thing about Trump is that he doesn't think his policies through. On security, he's going to ditch NATO and Asia, but promises a massive build-up of the US military.
He totally bemuses all economists by predicting the mother of all recessions at a time when the US economy is showing growing signs of strength, while promising to eliminate the deficit and balance the budget.
None of the other previous loose cannons were capable of doing what Trump will. He has effectively torn the GOP apart. He is masquerading as a Republican, but doesn't have a clue about policies that have been very carefully formulated. He seems to be making up policy as he goes along, and is making some major gaffes in the process. He is not a team player.
Whether he is nominated or not, he will damage the Republican brand beyond repair, will destabilise the US at home and overseas, and incite more terrorist attacks.
100 years of Bernie Sanders clones is not an encouraging prospect.
