Cataract surgery is VERY common after about 60.

Poor suckers!
Yes - suckers.
Here's what happens: (You're over 60)
Your optometrist sends you to an ophthalmologist because of glaucoma ... which she treats with laser shots and eye-drops, which really doesn't earn the ophthalmologist much money.
And sooooo ... She tells you :"Oh! Look at that! You've got cataracts!"
"When do they need to be operated on?" you ask.
"In about two years time", she assures you.
"How much will it cost for both eyes?"
"$6000 at my private clinic" she tells you, careful not to make eye-contact.
And THEN, dear readers ... if your name is Herbert, you sneakily make an appointment to see a top eye specialist at Sydney's Eye Hospital where they charge you nothing for cataract removals because it's a Teaching Hospital.
Three months later you finally get the call to come in for the interview.
Result? The top specialist shouts
"BULLSHIT!" when you tell him a fully qualified ophthalmologist has informed you you will need your cataracts removed in only two years time.
"BULLSHIT!" he roars again, frightening the horses in the street.
The upshot?
I'm to make an appointment with the Sydney Eye Hospital when I feel my vision might be getting cloudy.
Moral of the story? NEVER trust these medical specialists to have your best
financial interests at heart.
And ESPECIALLY don't trust them if they're Chinese.
Another Chinese specialist tried to rip me off for $5000 to have my kidney stones removed. He was persistent. I stonewalled and got them done for free at a Teaching Hospital in Sydney.
