... over 10 years.

We need to look at the annual figure on all such policy announcements to ensure we are comparing like with like.

That's true.

$3 Billion a year for defense..... compared to $12 Billion a year in interest payments, from Leftist Govt overspending.... Sad

Puts it into context somewhat don't it.... Cheesy

Which is about what it would take to build FTTP - and FTTP would have an roi of 10% -defense does not!

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-06/has-the-government-doubled-the-budget-defi...

Damn that ALP....

The LNP have doubled the budget deficit - they are responsible for the budget deficit.

As was Howard when he was treasurer!

60% of the 96 billion in 1996 can be attributed to his time as treasurer.

Sorry.......the billion a month interest bill was applicable in 2013 - 14 fiscal year

The Coalition and Australian tax-payer inherited Labor's debt, the interest on Labor's debt and Rudd -> Gillard -> Rudd Labor's 6 budget deficits.  Cheesy

are you nuts? labor had the gfc to deal with, the libs propsal at the time was going to cost almost as much as labors. Australia was one of few countries to avoid a recession because of labors policies.

The libs have now DOUBLED the deficit and no GFC. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

And the Liberal government have what?  Since they took power, they have made cuts to health, disability, education, abc, sbs.  They also tried to cut merger incomes of nursing home elderlies and veterans by way of indexation.  They increased tax for the rich.  And all that, the budge deficit still blow up by billions.

I think the Liberal government have lost its directions.

They have still caused the budget deficit to double - even taking into account the alp's deficit.

Your ignorance slip is showing once again Jonathon.

They haven't doubled the debt or interest commitment though.  They have been trying to rein it in actually, but are being blocked by the ridiculously irresponsible and unrepresentative Senate.

Labor was actually in Govt right throughout the mining commodities boom and whilst Australia enjoyed record high terms of trade and record high iron ore prices yet they still managed to rack up enough debt that is costing the tax-payer a Billion Dollars a month.

......

The economic outlook for Australia is far worse at present than at any time during the GFC.

who mentioned the debt Swag? and what budget saving policies are being blocked? are you referring to the cuts to medicare abbott wanted to make where ALL the money went into a future fund? or perhaps your referring to the increase in GST that would end up costing more than it raised? tell me which policies exactly are budget saving?

If the economic outlook is worse, it's because we have id iots in charge. Only a lib would claim the  current economi c climate is worse than during the GFC

Yeh Trump reckons it's been a bad deal right from the start and should be scrapped.
