It's actually rare everywhere, so I wouldn't be so quick to chalk it up as a success.

A number of studies have calculated the risk of HIV infection from any single needlestick injury where HIV-contaminated blood is involved is around 0.32%.1 Some studies have also calculated the risk of HIV infection on the basis of person-years, and show a similarly low chance of infection

No but my suggestion is that if needle exchange programs were so risky we'd be seeing increased numbers in children and we really don't.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

I quite agree. Now as for the retards who give their kids alcohol cigarettes and other drugs; how do you stop it?

I would think it was a very small percentage of people that give their kids booze fags or other drugs so small you will never stop it. You can't fix dumb.
This discussion is about kids dying at dance parties and people are being penalised in their life for using recreational drugs.
A mate of mine has a son that is 21 and he was recently in hospital after dropping fifteen ekkies, the kids reasoning was he didn't know how strong the pills were so he kept dropping them. If ecstasy was a controlled substance people would know how much was needed to get " high " just like they know how many beers they need to get drunk.
I'd prefer our kids to know they can drop two or three pills and get out of it instead of playing Russian roulette with backyard mixes that they have no idea of the contents.
Prohibition DOES NOT WORK NEVER HAS NEVER WILL. It is time for a reality check and to keep our kids alive as the current laws are killing our kids.

.................

how do we know it isnt working????????????????

because some nice person in parliament thinks so.. what evidence do the greens have??????????

where do they get this information from???..

you are just taking it for granted they know more than you???..... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes..

show us the clinical evidence......let ask the experts the men and women who treat the drug addicts..

lets talk to the prison authorities and ask how many return for the same thing...

lets talk to the Ambos who get called out to drug overdoses.....lets see what figures they have....

what is life like in Nimbim?....

are they self sufficient?.....can they take care of themselves???

why not make murder legal we cant stop that either... and jail isnt working?????......

where will we draw the line?..

ask yourself sprint would you be happy if your gra dkids go down this route because its legal??>.

would you be happy to see them drink themselves stoooopid because its legal.? do you really want another battle on your hands.....

and from what I have read this ICE makes people murder people....

is that going to work? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

how do the greens plan to stop all that happening?.

Quote:
..........show us the clinical evidence.........

Turkey, Amsterdam.

The situation with nimbin, police, ambos .......... ALL are where drugs are a criminal offence.
this is all evidence it is a failed system.

sprint how do you know what they tell us from overseas it correct,.....?? what evidence is there???

and why would it work in this country?..

to me its a cop out...why bother catch one lot of crooks and another take their place.....

like I said..

were will they  draw the line..????

what next there is some mad guy suggesting rape should be legal on private property???>..

now thats something else we dont seem to be able to stop...

maybe we should make it legal for shop keepers who get held up...to kill the robbers...

thats another thing that never goes away..

and it at least could put a lot of these drive in robberies on hold... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

if the greens want this,... why not going to the ELECTION WITH IT....that at least would spell honesty. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

why isnt he dead????>...do you really think legal will make it less wanted.... as far as I can see with youth... their main aim is to get drunk when they turn 18... look at schoolies week...year in year out...... so being legal and coming of age make it all the more exciting....and drugs being handed out by the chemist or even drug houses....wont change that... as we already see todays drug of choice is history tomorrow....

and they are getting cheaper.....at least smokes are getting dearer...which is of course a big put off for the young...

its a pity some dont think more knowledge of what drugs do to their brain.. would maybe make a difference......

I feel for the family of those that kill themselves....but the ones that choose that life.. I dont even think about... its all about choices.

The war on drugs is working - RIGHT???

If it were, there would be no-one using drugs.

This isn't the case - it's time to look at our policies.

http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1893946,00.html

The paper, published by Cato in April, found that in the five years after personal possession was decriminalized, illegal drug use among teens in Portugal declined and rates of new HIV infections caused by sharing of dirty needles dropped, while the number of people seeking treatment for drug addiction more than doubled.

The Cato paper reports that between 2001 and 2006 in Portugal, rates of lifetime use of any illegal drug among seventh through ninth graders fell from 14.1% to 10.6%; drug use in older teens also declined. Lifetime heroin use among 16-to-18-year-olds fell from 2.5% to 1.8% (although there was a slight increase in marijuana use in that age group). New HIV infections in drug users fell by 17% between 1999 and 2003, and deaths related to heroin and similar drugs were cut by more than half. In addition, the number of people on methadone and buprenorphine treatment for drug addiction rose to 14,877 from 6,040, after decriminalization, and money saved on enforcement allowed for increased funding of drug-free treatment as well.

The Cato report's author, Greenwald, hews to the first point: that the data shows that decriminalization does not result in increased drug use. Since that is what concerns the public and policymakers most about decriminalization, he says, "that is the central concession that will transform the debate."

It's time to look at other options.

Australia has had a needle exchange program for decades thanks to the socialists, well not so much as an exchange program,  than a get a needle and throw the infected needle on the ground after you use it program, from what I hear it is working a treat.

A lot more children are being exposed to HIV than otherwise would have, if it were not for this program.

And yet HIV due to needlestick injury in this country is extremely rare, so it must be working.

If it is not zero then it is too many, who the fkkk would want HIV from some filthy junkies  discarded needle?
It is only acceptable to socialist
because it happens to someone else's children.

Make it a true exchange if you want one then you better hand one back in, anything else id bullsh1t.

Er - actually it's not.

That's WHY we have needle exchanges and safe-injecting-rooms.

And the difference IS noticeable. When living in Wollongong in the 1980s and
Cabramatta in the mid-1990s, you'd see them literally everywhere - in parks
in schools, in your car-port, your letter-box (no, I'm not kidding).

I don't see that now.

And there are a LOT less people OD-ing in the streets, too.

No, you can't blame this one on socialists.

As the father of a thirteen year old It is exactly what I want. I'm not stupid enough to think kids don't take drugs if those drugs are controlled we know how much is in them. If they are not a kid could drop one Ekky and die or drop fifteen and not.
As for you mindless abuse I'll let a mod deal with that.

so if your 13 yr old says hey dad I am going to an allnight rage tonight they are selling legal drugs at the door...I might check them out you will be ok with that?...because they have been approved by the govt.

MY 13 year-old wouldn't be GOING to any all-night raves under any circumstances.

Boundaries and limits, remember them?

But at 16, and provided it was only cannabis - no problem.

However, if they DID get hold of something else, I'd damned-well want some testing facilities available.

I would NOT want them harassed by uniformed bullies with dogs - that achieves nothing.

I feel sorry for your daughter having such a brain dead parent. You're ok with her using cannabis and othrr drugs if they're tested. NEWSFLASH: YOU CAN'T TEST DRUGS LIKE ECSTASY WITHOUT DESTROYING THE TABLET!!! What would you expect? They test 10 and the other 99 tablets are untested? Worst parent of the century goes to Kat!!!

The error in your argument is that somehow legal ice and legal MDMA would be 'safe'.  How do you figure that? There is nothing safe about any og these narcotics in any dimension. They are very addictive and very dangerous. And once you decriminalise them, what is to stop kids from taking them? NOTHING.

Just because you are not winning a war is no reason to surrender. That is the cowards way out and ultimately utter disaster.

The main reason drugs are dangerous is that they're illegal and made in backyard labs, but don't let the facts get in the way of your dogma. So we add longy to the list of those that would prefer our kids to die snorting Ajax or worse instead of regulating it.
It's interesting, though not surprising, to see the ones here that are  brainwashed in their understanding or lack there of.
I bet most of them down half a dozen beers or sherries a night and think nothing of it. Roll Eyes

Why indeed, considering I never suggested it.

I was referring to the broad-minded, thinking outside the square part.

I would almost vote for the greens on this policy alone.

Greenswin - convince me.
It won't take a lot.

Armchair would prefer to see our kids die as a result of prohibition.

You really are an imbecilic arsewipe if you honestly think that. As a father of two young boys, that's the last thing I'd ever want. Grow a brain, phuckwit. Angry

Go back and re-read my comment. Try actually comprehending it this time.

Then maybe you can post a cogent response.
