I would almost vote for the greens on this policy alone.

Greenswin - convince me.
It won't take a lot.

amazing.....my sons partners younger brother is due out of jail this month... after 7 years...he is now brain damaged from drugs...he will be sent home.. [where else]..and round the corner are the people that deal the drugs... but thats ok...who really cares?????...he is a useless human being now.. he and a lot of others.... in fact I would say quite a lot of our homeless men and women have a drug problem...

and thats the reason they are homeless...but again dont let that stop anyone from making it legal...

maybe the likes of sprint and WALLY and Larrisa should do the tour of the homeless streets and drug dens and hospitals.. maybe aged care where I know for a fact they put anyone who is badly brain damaged by drugs....maybe even visit with some of the families that have been left to deal with it all........

do this I INSIST! before you make any wild decisions....make sure you see the WHOLE PICTURE

Cods - you are saying "Drugs do harm to society"

So do I .

I am saying 'the war on drugs' has been lost for decades.
Other ideas have proven effective overseas.

Lets do that.

Just because something works in another country doesn't mean it will work here. Look at what happened to the NSW Police after they selected a British cop (Ryan) for the job of NSW Police Commissioner. He restructured the service to match that of the UK and it was an unmitigated disaster. Scipione has finally undone the damage caused by Ryan and things are pretty much back to normal. Moral of the story - just because the structure of the Police organisation worked in the UK doesn't mean it'll work here. Different cultures, different procedures, different work ethics, etc.

You really are an imbecilic arsewipe if you honestly think that. As a father of two young boys, that's the last thing I'd ever want. Grow a brain, phuckwit. Angry

As the father of a thirteen year old It is exactly what I want. I'm not stupid enough to think kids don't take drugs if those drugs are controlled we know how much is in them. If they are not a kid could drop one Ekky and die or drop fifteen and not.
As for you mindless abuse I'll let a mod deal with that.

how do we know it isnt working????????????????

because some idiot in parliament thinks so.. what evidence do the greens have??????????

where do they get this information from???..

you are just taking it for granted they know more than you???..... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes..

show us the clinical evidence......let ask the experts the men and women who treat the drug addicts..

lets talk to the prison authorities and ask how many return for the same thing...

lets talk to the Ambos who get called out to drug overdoses.....lets see what figures they have....

what is life like in Nimbim?....

are they self sufficient?.....can they take care of themselves???

why not make murder legal we cant stop that either... and jail isnt working?????......

where will we draw the line?..

ask yourself sprint would you be happy if your gra dkids go down this route because its legal??>.

would you be happy to see them drink themselves stoooopid because its legal.? do you really want another battle on your hands.....

and from what I have read this ICE makes people murder people....

is that going to work? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

how do the greens plan to stop all that happening?.

I'm 33, good career - at 21 I was on drugs and lost a friend who o.d. (I've been off them for 12 years!)

I chose to get off them - it wasn't easy and I needed a psychologist and lots of support.

In the end laws didn't deter me - the war on drugs doesn't work.

It has been shown overseas that a different type of policy works.

You can be anti drugs and your own children will try them.

I wouldn't want my kids trying them, however I'm also not stupid enough to put my head in the sand.

Kids will try drugs - whether they are legal or not.

It is a debate we need to have.

Most drugs are illegal because they are dangerous in various ways. Not all of them are, though. Cannabis is less dangerous than tobacco, but it was originally made illegal in the 1930s to remove competition for the nascent plastics industry.

If we consider decriminalising illicit drugs, decriminalisation should be considered on a per-drug basis.

Cannabis is not particularly dangerous, so it can be decriminalised with little risk to the community. It may even be possible that cannabis being illegal is making the drug problem worse, not better. People try illegal cannabis, find it's not particularly dangerous, then try other illicit drugs, the dangerous ones. Cannabis should be regulated, not outlawed.

Any drug that has a risk of death from overdose or that is addictive and harmful should remain illegal. Addicts should be able to access treatment programs to get off the drugs safely.

In between is where we need to have a debate. Which drugs should remain illegal, and which should be regulated instead?

Alcohol is legal. Legal drinking age - 18.
Tobacco is legal. Legal smoking age - 18.

Where do you get the idea that kids would be allowed to buy legal drugs if drugs that are already legal cannot be bought by them?

Exactly. Unfortunately there is nothing common about common sense with some of these people. Roll Eyes

Where do the kids get their alcohol and ciggies? Would it be any different for other drugs?

Then fix the problems that allow kids to gain access to them. Start with the parents who leave alcohol and tobacco lying around where kids can get to it.

How about YOU show us how we're going to do that. You're the one that was asking where kids got tobacco and alcohol from, how about you suggest some solutions.

MY 13 year-old wouldn't be GOING to any all-night raves under any circumstances.

Boundaries and limits, remember them?

But at 16, and provided it was only cannabis - no problem.

However, if they DID get hold of something else, I'd damned-well want some testing facilities available.

I would NOT want them harassed by uniformed bullies with dogs - that achieves nothing.

Me too, the war on drugs has been well and truly lost, all it is now is a war on people.
