Piss off to the NT with your idiocy, where you're only likely to kill yourself, or a poor, unfortunate wombat.

No thanks we have quite enough knob heads driving like that up here already.

Nah this was in the first month it opened nearly 25 years ago. At 4am not a single car

No way you could do that in Australia because some tool would change lanes and the closing speed is about 100kph.

BTW all these speeds I was bragging about was about 25 years ago, times were so different then.

I once got busted doing 160kph on the freeway and the cop started off all cop like and serious and thinking he was going to throw the book at me. I spotted him checking out the headers on my bike and asked him what's up. He asked me what kind they were and turns out he had a similar model bike. We talked bikes for 30 mins and he gave me the ticket at less than 15 over.

I'm not suggesting it was better/worse back then, just commenting on the way it was.

Everyone I used to know treated the speed limit as a suggestion Wink

Gee wizz - you were lucky - I lost my license in the late 70's for going 157 km/hr on a motorbike - a Kawasaki 500 triple.
At least that's what they booked me for.

Only on their very best roads, and definitely not within a city, or in a cross harbor tunnel.

Those autobahns have had huge amounts of dollars poured into them. Given the distances in Australia, we would need to invest much, much more to come up to their standards. They are more than just dual carriageway freeways.

There are specific rules, that are heavily enforced, about when and where you can do those speed (and ensuring others keep out of your way).

Last point... "Germans".

That is crazy - you're lucky to be alive.
At least when I went fast I had proper high speed tyres

True, ok I was in a GT351 as a passenger about 30 years ago on the west gate freeway, we did 120 mph = 193 klm/h.

Another one at around the same time as above, again I was a passenger in a Mercedes did 160 klm/h over the west gate bridge.

I was a dickhead and so were my mates.

I was into wog cars for a while. Had one of these for a few years. Just watching this clip gave me a memory-gasim.

I got the missus to be's Fiat 850 up to 90MPH on West Coast Highway, City Beach. Should have seen her face when I told her. Then she was so proud, she didn't think it could do it.

People used to drop huge burnouts around the city(Perth) on NYE without the the cops batting an eyelid. They didn't like our Scarborough drags though.

180 in the Sydney Harbour tunnel before cams were installed
200+ across the bridge at about 4am
285 on the M1 freeway

Also hit the tunnel shortly after it opened....200 indicated on the Speedo on the north south pass.
160+ many times heading north off the bridge....as the traffic started clearing at 9am - quite a few close calls over the couple of years I regularly did that. I can't remember ever seeing a  hw patrol on that stretch at that time.

Many others on different roads around Sydney over a period of 25 or so years. Then got busted in a big way and discovered track days.

Yeah track days should be mandatory for anyone with a fast bike just to get it out of your system.

Best moment on a public road?
Doing 200+ going south and up hill past the Pie In The Sky on the "Old Road" , knee down, and bringing the front up on the change of direction. Heaps of spectators lined against the car park wall, but noticed two old Ulysses club types both staring and very obviously mouthing "what a f**kwit".

Year: about 2003
Bike: very warmed up Fireblade 954.

I lol when I read stuff like this.  Back in my day we did speeds like this in the local street.

I had fast motorbikes... a few person records.
180 in the Sydney Harbour tunnel before cams were installed
200+ across the bridge at about 4am
285 on the M1 freeway
http://m.smh.com.au/nsw/driver-caught-travelling-more-than-100kmh-over-speed-limit-20160206-gmni4v.html

I had a GPZ 1100 that i tried to set a few speed records with, it was the first production bike to crack 10 second quarter mile times.

Did Chatswood to Woollongong in just under an hour
Caught and passed an ambulance going over the bridge that was doing around 160KPH while doubling, left it like it was standing still.

I remember when speed cameras came out i thought how buggered is that, one of my friends said they're not that bad at least you don't get defected for bald tires as well with them.

Didn't need helmets, knee pads, elbow pads or anything to ride skateboards or pushbikes as a kid didn't break any bones but lost some skin on occasions.

The kids these days are wrapped in cotton wool

take a chill pill... I'm sure we've all done some stupid things when younger...

actually.. I probably did more than my fair share as well... !!

True that , i did 200 in my xd v8 falcon with a big bubble in front tyre as a young fella , i shudder thinking about it now

That is crazy - you're lucky to be alive.
At least when I went fast I had proper high speed tyres
& perfect road conditions.

I had a front left tire blow out at 230 KPH in my Torana on the M4.

No dramas it just started pulling left so i slowed down and stopped

These days, killing a wombat on the road is as likely as winning the lottery. Most wombats these days are kept in captivity, trying to get them to breed.

Faster than mine, I had a Honda VTR1000 up to 2002. Was good on the Old Road as being a V Twin you could be in just about any gear and use the crazy torque.

I took the family to pie in the sky a few months ago in the SUV. The pies are still good at least.

I've grown to like VTRs over the past few years. They sound great and I'd like to give one a try one day soon. I've always lusted after the SP1 version, but couldn't find one when I bought the 954. I test rode a RC45 at the time, but baulked at the 17.5k asking price....seemed steep for a 750/4 despite all the HRC bits made from Unobtainium. Looking back, I probably should have bought it instead of the 'blade.

Last I checked, a fire engine did 130kmh on its way out to Gracemere. I know because I was trying to keep up with it, only to see it pull away easily. I was doing 110kmh at most.

Ambulances have no problem doing 80kmh down the main street where I live. I have seen a police car shoot passed at 120kmh in suburban streets.

And a lawyer informed me, during my contesting of a speeding ticket, that officers in emergency services are not required to abide by traffic laws in pursuit of their duties.
