You're so right FD - she was "called" Muhammad - incorrectly by the person who wrote the article.

Just as long as you understand how idiotic your original point was - to attempt to ridicule muslims for naming their women Muhammad.

Er.... isn't she an American? There is such a thing as a surname in American culture (can I say 'American culture'?)

Correct - she would presumably adopt Muhammad as her "surname" in such circumstances as a first and last name is required. In which case you would have to agree that mocking her for being "called" Muhammad, is no less ridiculous as mocking a western girl with the surname Bruce or James or Scott for being "called" a boy's name.

How about Ibtihaj Bint Mohammed, then. She is a bint, isn't she? We can agree on that, surely.

Depends where her Islamic heritage is. The more formal term, as per classical arabic is ابنة ('ibnat'), and many arabic cultures do not use the more colloquial "bint".

She lives in the USA & until the Caliphate takes over I believe it's still a western country ....

as such the semantics of how her Arabic name is applied mean squat ....

in the US you are identified as having a first name & a surname ....

you can change it by deed poll to something symbolic or ridiculous ...

but in the main it's First name... Surname

as such taking into account whose daughter she is,

she is Ibtihaj Muhammad.

Stick you pedantics where they belong.

Is she no longer called Muhammed? Why is this incorrect?
