Besides, there is no concept of a surname in muslim culture. She is referred to as Muhammed because thats her father's name.

The article refers to her as Ibtihaj Muhammad - which is a westernised way of saying what literally means "Ibtihaj daughter of Muhammad".

The journalist then makes the common mistake of referring to her as 'Muhammad' in the same way as we refer to our PM as "Turnbull".
