Moreover, this thread is about protecting workers.

What does "stop the boats" have to do with protecting workers?

Complete and utter.

He'll try to trot out the old "penalty rates create unemployment" lie, which has been debunked dozens of times.

He needs to find a new angle.

I didn't ask the question. Try to keep up.

The person who did ask the question was addressing the subject of 'protecting workers' (the subject matter of this thread), which you yourself commented on previously - "increase PENALTIES... right!".

Then, for some bizarre reason, you changed the subject to "stopping the boats".

Are you right in the head, dear?

Labor pledges to crack down on employers who exploit workers

The Guardian
Monday 1 February 2016

Labor has promised to crack down on the exploitation of workers by significantly increasing penalties for employers who underpay workers to more than $200,000 for individuals and more than $1m for corporations.   Smiley

A Labor government would also tighten legal protections for workers exploited in so-called “sham” contracts, where employers hire workers as subcontractors to avoid entitlements such as annual leave and sick leave.

Labor promised to give the fair work ombudsman more power to chase down employers who liquidate companies to avoid worker entitlements.

It would also increase the penalties for employers who exploit temporary overseas workers. There are 732,750 temporary workers in Australia, including students, 457 visa workers and working holidaymakers.

Labor would impose a new criminal offence for employers who “deliberately exploit temporary overseas workers”, even if they are employing the worker within the terms of their visa. The offence would be punishable by fines and up to two years’ imprisonment.   Smiley

Labor’s employment and workplace relations spokesman, Brendan O’Connor, said the recent spate of cases involving underpayment, sham contracting and other exploitation required action.

O’Connor said Labor had met with workers around the country to investigate the problem and promised to consult with employers on the scale of the penalty increase.

“Recent examples of clear and widespread worker exploitation at notable companies have been met by silence and inaction from Malcolm Turnbull’s Liberals, despite continuous calls from Labor for action to protect working people and jobs,” O’Connor said.

“We will consult employers and their representatives, workers and unions on the scale of the increase to penalties to ensure there is an appropriate deterrent in place to protect workers from unscrupulous employers.”

In the past year, two 7-Eleven convenience stores have had their franchise agreements terminated for underpaying workers after a Fairfax investigation.

Pizza Hut delivery drivers have alleged they were paid rates as low as $12 an hour while providing their own car, fuel and vehicle maintenance.

The fair work ombudsman is investigating the case of retailer Myer, whose cleaners alleged they were denied pay and entitlements through the use of sham contracts and subcontracting.

Baiada food processing factories faced allegations of exploitation and the fair work ombudsman found young poultry workers were paid as little as $11.50 an hour.

Labor announced the policy on the eve of the resumption of parliament, which sits on Tuesday to Thursday.

You ever heard of corporate goal alignment?
That your personal goal are set to align with the mission strategy of the corporate in general?
That if the company performs well to its targets, the rewards are greater.

Or let me guess you just want to go in work til 5 and think nothing more about the place you work...
Those are the people who we just don't want. They are called "deadbeats" at our strategy meetings - they have absolutely zero buy in or aim of progression at all.

In Australia we saw a shockingly negative reply to the request to perform the full inventory audit count on a non work day.
The Japanese came in on Saturday and Sunday and worked their ass off the whole team.
In Australia we were hard pushed to get three blokes to come in....

Lazy bunch of socialists "what do I get out of it?"

The Japanese showed why their work ethic craps all over the Aussies.

you mean ass kissing? An employees goes to work for pay. If you believe in corporate goal alignment, why don't you start by working for free?

I'm sure your companies corporate goals is to reduce costs as much as possible. Align away.

I've been involved with profit sharing where company goals were met consistently and we, the employees were rewarded for our efforts with a nice fat annual bonus , unused sick leave was payed out with a bonus on top as well depending on where one was at with sick balance , that raised the level of participation ,productivity ,gave a sense of ownership and ensured the best were retained , however, it never once entailed going in to work for free. Not once.

In the vast majority of companies the rewards are still the same.

At this point your straw man falls down and catches fire.

An employee is definably a person who is employed to work for a wage.

People who work for free are called either slaves or fools.
