Writing sender's address for overseas mail
Jan 27th, 2016 at 2:27pm

Unfortunately Australia Post has no instructions on this.

So!

Am I right or wrong in writing my Sender's address on the back of the envelope as ...

Lord Herbert,
6 Bottlebrush St.,
West Kookaburra,
Australia 2956

Correction!

I forgot to include the 'NSW' bit ... Hence ...

Lord Herbert,
6 Bottlebrush St.,
West Kookaburra NSW
Australia 2956

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

It's pretty much compulsory nowadays. If I don't put my Sender's Address on the back I always get pulled up about it by the Post Office staff.

I would do it this way:

Lord Herbert,
6 Bottlebrush St.,
West Kookaburra, NSW, 2956
AUSTRALIA

..... and don't forget to stick an AIRMAIL stamp (free at the PO) on front and back of envelope/package.

From Australia Post:

"Include a return address so we can we can return the letter if it can't be delivered. Put your address in the top left corner, or on the back flap of the envelope".

Yes, Neferti - You've spotted the main difficulty I have with this.

I believe that a letter arriving with the sender's address back to Australia should read as ...

Australia 2956

And that's because the postal drones need to know which airport the letter should be offloaded at.

More from Australia Post:

The return address should be written neatly at the top of the envelope (on the flap that folds over) and should not take up too much room, or it might be mistaken for the recipient's address rather than the return address.

1. Your name

2. Your street address

3. Your suburb and state / territory in CAPITAL letters

4. Your postcode.

That's precisely what I always do.

The top left corner at the BACK of the envelope - or on the back flap if its a manila envelope.

Congratulations for stating what ALL of us and the neighbour's DOG already knows.

You're not paying attention.

The envelope is to be addressed by someone overseas posting to someone in Australia.

Do try to keep up with us, old son.
