I remember when 13, going to the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise, Caville Avenue circa 1967, where it has a much nicer memory of a 'beachy holiday' feeling. Absolutely loved it.
I also recall only a few short years later in 1971, they were starting them high rise buildings (they had this speaker facing the beach, and remember Itchycoo Park playing as I walked along the beach.

Those guys that were working on the buildings would always do the wolf whistles at us gals!
The only remnant that is very reminiscent of the 1960's is that motel The Sands. I hear others talking of it needing to be demolished as it's an eyesore, and a new building go in it's place.
Surfers Paradise has become such a touristy city, it's mad, takes away that wonderful beachy feel (and all them tall buildings cast shadows over the sand so you get no afternoon sun!).
The hubby loves it mad and bustling, I, for some reason, don't, except for the shops....which the hubby hates

And parking meters, hardly ever see a Meter Maid in gold bikinis putting in any money!
