Well I plan to do a bit of work on my project car if the rain arrives and keeps the heat down a bit. Its unbearable in the garage when its over 30deg

Or I might install that air horn that have had sitting around for a while into my car

I could clean the gutters....mmm no

What about yourselves?

I've just finished the weekend, and next weeks baking for the café. So I've been home to catch up on housework, including the laundry, (wish I had time on my hands to do these things daily, but I work 12-16 hours a day, 6 days a week). I'm about to prep for dinner then go pick my twins up from my mum's.

Redneck, my dad is a mechanic/panel beater/painter etc by trade and over the years he's had several project vehicles. Some he's still 'working' on, sourcing parts etc, most he's completed. One of the 'working' on vehicles is a 1960's Ford, (holds up white flag, don't shoot Tongue), Galaxy 500XL Convertible. He bought it, on the spot when he spotted it on one of his trips to the USA, sent it home (NZ), set about rebuilding/restoring it, between customers, when he can. I think he isn't in a hurry to finish this particle car. Sentimental reasons I believe.

Anyway, I understand your long term project car. Spider, GT, GTV....?

After yesterday's horrible and oppressive 43 deg heat, with big gusts of wind later (that made the Spirit of Tasmania ship break its moorings crashing into Station Pier Melbourne before drifting off!)...then we were without power, only to have a lovely cool calm 24 deg day today, and we even had some long needed rain, making the garden and grounds so fragrant.

I feel like a bit of a zombie today....really must get stuck into doing something, like the tax.

There's a much greater health hazard picking up the hire car at LAX and getting out of South Central.

LA is an underrated city. Please don't tell us how "suburban" it is ... or dangerous.

Oh don't tell me that!
Am about to change some holiday details to include freelance from LA airport, but avoid LA city, go to Whittier (to meet long lost relatives I recently found via ancestry), and being near Disneyland, may incorporate that into it all, but intend on booking shuttle busses, my son thinks we should just wing it, hire a car (saying petrol is cheaper over there then here in Oz)....but I said, driving on the other side of the road, I would be confused, too frightening, would rather pay through the nose for a taxi at worse.

I was looking at the map of CA, and seeing how the travel route was from LA airport to Whittier, and it seems straight forward, taking an hour via shuttle bus for $30 each.

Anyway, this will be the first time ever being on USA soil for us.
Should be an adventure!
The other rellies are in Oceanside, I am hoping they would be bothered and kind enough to maybe pick us up from motel and drive us around a bit.....are they like that in the US? I know I would do that for any visiting long lost rellies that made an effort with time and money for us!

Hey Red

What type of car?

Re my day?

We're looking at 36 degrees in Sydney today.

I'm washing away here BIG time.

No cooking though. Just cold salads, cold ham and fresh bread rolls tonight.

House and gardens are all clean and tidy. Did all that yesterday.

Kids are with my sister for a few hrs. Hubby's gone on a small shopping errand for me.

I'm looking at uni subjects and real estate stuff online atm.

Yep. That just about covers it for now.

And........

We're off to Balmoral Beach.

Byeeeee  Smiley

Which means Anaheim which is nothing more than a tourist (trap) destination shithole. Particularly Asian tourists (far worse in San Francisco). Southern Cali sucks so much anymore it's zero wonder why so many are leaving the place.

Hardly. It's California where nobody has a car. In fact they're behind the Amish when it comes to transportation there.

...

You'd be better off visiting the Ohio Valley or western Pennsylvania.

Too hot for plans today.  Staying indoors in the cool is the only thing to do.  I couldn't think of anything worse than being at the beach or amongst crowds.

36 degrees in Sydney?

I'm facing -18C in Norway on Friday!

Though I'm only there 12 hours. Due to the ridiculous pricing of British Airways I have to fly to Norway to pick up a flight to Los Angeles connecting right here in London.
Bloody ridiculous. But the cost is £1,900 v £3,950....

Insanity.

Huh? Negative 18 degrees?

Are you surrounded by igloos and eskimos by any chance lol?

Probably.
I'm staying at the airport hotel.
I'll take a walk outside to see what it's like but I'm packing for California not Norway so doubt I'll be correctly attired....

Grin Grin Grin Grin enjoy ...I froze my nuts off in Oslo in summer, . Beautiful city though ...if you get a chance to look around Id highly recommend it.

I'd hate to visit in Winter Although I doubt wifey dearest will let me skip it. She loves Norway and wants to travel there in winter.  Cry Cry Cry

I may do (visit destinations you have recommended), but not this time, as we have booked a package holiday with web jet for a bus tour of Canada for 5 days, then a cruise along Alaska. We will hardly be in LA, but only because I want to meet the rellies, a connection, my mum had asked me to try and find them for years, I almost gave up, even after 3 years in ancestry, then it sort of started to happen, and I actually wrote a letter (yes, the kind with a stamp on it) and gave my mobile number, and I received a text message 1 week later to say it was them. I was so excited. Trouble is my mum is 88 this year, and her cousin is 87, I have to make sure I do this before it's too late.
I guess that's the whole reason behind going to CA, but since they live in Whittier, and Disneyland is so close, geez, all that way from lil ole Melbourne Australia, may as well see what all the fuss is about.  Smiley

Re: cars, my 2nd cousin I will meet (in his mid 50's now), (we are all friends on facebook now, so we keep score of each other's lives and so forth)...he is in a wheelchair, was in a "automobile accident" I am told, when he was 21. He is paraplegic, and is in a band where he plays guitar and harmonica.....am quite proud of him and his zest for life.

It's a stay behind option I am paying from the web jet package, for an extra $800 to change flights, it's purely just to meet the people we are related to. Since early days, when my mum's father's brother went to the USA, and my family came to Melbourne, losing contact, and you know how it happened why I couldn't locate them......I found it in the ship names to the US....it was a mis-spelling......just one vowel was out of place....and how am I going to tell them, their name is not the correct ancestors name...lolll.... So this is what I have been doing today, on the internet, doing all those fiddly details online, and also booking an excursion to see Seattle and the Boeing factory.

I also do the live chat to make sure I get it all correct before I do it.

Then, all this being done, I am going to check what them numbers will be for the US Powerball which last I heard was $1.5 billion Shocked
Yes, I did purchase some tickets online  Cool

Okay, going to take the doggy for a walk now.

At this time of year? You do realize it's winter in the northern hemisphere. Friend of mine from college went on a cruise to Alaska and said it was quite breath-taking (being touristy and all) but she did it in the summer when the sun never sets. I was there in 2007 (if memory serves) in the Kenai Peninsula in the dead of winter to witness the northern lights. Have another friend who is a nurse at St. Lawrence Island gawd only knows why anyone would want to live there.

...

It's smacking beautiful up there but being in -20 (-29C) wasn't much fun. Still want to experience a 24-hour sun summer day up there just to experience it. Southern Cali sucks, a cruise is a much better deal.
