Of course sexism is a problem in Labor, as in both major parties, they are overwhelmingly male boys clubs. The MAJORITY of the population is female, yet they can never rise to the top, the reason for this, is structural sexism.

Quota's overcome this by giving females an actual smacking chance to overcome social barriers that would stop them from even getting into pre-selection.

Also I find it hilarious for you to think that Sexism is a bigger problem in Labor than it is in the Liberal party, the party that doesn't even believe that women should have control over their own bodies and appointed a proud misogynist as the minister for women.

The former PM Tony Abbott's CoS was a female. The current FM is a female. The federal Defence Minister is a female. The NSW Opposition was once lead by a female. The Liberals and Nationals are by no means perfect on issues relating to women, but they are significantly better than the atrocious ALP.

Both parties seem to have an issue with sexism - as does the Australian business community.

This is something we have to sought out.

Only one party allows advancement for women by means other than ability, merit or experience. That party is the Australian Labor Party. Their method is a quota that takes into account neither merit or ability, nor experience.

We all (those of us with a brain, anyway) know that Labor has an appalling track record regarding the treatment of women and this just proves it. Gillard's farcical misogyny speech in parliament was simply appalling and shows how little respect for women there is in the ALP, even from some of its female representatives.

Gillard's speech cast a bad light on Labor men?  That's a stretch...

Reads more like the usual seedy sexual behaviour rampant in politics.... one night stands and cheating on spouses.... part of the territory it seems...

Of course - those women involved are angels.... and it's all the fault of men.....

What an utterly silly position to take, a younger woman silly enough to have a one-nighter with a father of three, then trying to apply pressure by threatening to 'out' him, and then being surprised at his response in saying it's a bad idea for both.

She's better off out of politics - just another airhead with big ideas about being a big wheel in politics through any means, and too young and silly to bother with.

Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

50% women in parliament. thats the total answer.

THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH QUOTAS. it papers over the ACTUAL problems.

(slits wrists)... I actually agree with Longy...... I've always opposed Affirmative Action in any way, shape or form... and always will.

Look what the emasculation of society did to Russia.... and Britain..... and The United States.... and Australia..... and Sweden..... and Germany..... and France....

Why is sexism regarded as only 'against women'?  You ever work in the Public Service? As a man there you'd soon learn what Sexism is all about..... and you would see the outcomes from Affirmative Action at first hand.....

It is profoundly Sexist to even consider a quota system..... not to mention Fascio-Communist in that it is an imposition without justice.

I will never vote for Labor as long as they refuse to allow genuine merit and genuine results (is there any such thing in some kid coming up through the Party ranks all filled with the Party line and toeing it religiously?) to be the only yardstick by which a person is selected/promoted.

On the other hand, philosophically I could never vote LNP.

Vote 1 - Grappler For President!  Stop The Parties!

One might ask how much the Daily Tele is paying for this story?

On also might ask why the PS in Hong Kong had all manner of assumptions made against her by the RWNJ here & now as Big points out they are all Mrs Lovejoy over this women who openly admits consensual sex & then (let's call a spade a spade) probable blackmail.

Correct.....
