Teen charged with attempted rape after eight girls and young women allegedly sexually assaulted while swimming in Surfers Paradise
Lifeguards detained the man, understood to be a Pakistani national, and contacted police after three separate groups of friends raised the alarm on the beach at around 12:30pm yesterday.

Among the eight victims was a group of five 15-year-old girls and three more women aged between 17 and 24, all of whom were swimming between the flags when they were allegedly attacked.



Detective Inspector Greg Aubort said the man told police he had inadvertently come into contact with the women in strong waves, despite the surf being recorded as only two to three feet. 

The claim was contradicted by the alleged victims and police said their initial investigations suggested the alleged assaults were intentional.

“Initially there’s been some attempted explanations as to being involved in rough surf and flailing about trying to grab people to protect himself,” Detective Inspector Aubort told reporters today.

“The reality is we have individual reports very firm in saying these were deliberate acts.”
January 13, 2016: An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted rape following alleged assaults at Surfers Paradise.

He described the alleged attacks as “absolutely brazen” and praised lifeguards for their assistance.

“It’s a terrible act to attempt to commit, particularly when you look at the ages of these ladies,” he said.

The alleged attacker was holidaying in Surfers Paradise from his home in Geelong, Victoria, and was alone when he was arrested.

He was charged with two counts of attempted rape, seven counts of sexual assault and four counts of common assault.

He was today refused bail.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnesses or been the victim of similar attacks to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The alleged offender is described as having dark brown, curly hair and olive skin.

This really makes me angry.

I will be watching with interest to see how the GC COPS and and the Courts here deal with this.

It IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERY PERSON TO TREAT THIS PROPERLY. No free ride for this PUNK please.

I personally would expect that this person is charged and jailed till appearance in Court,  then, being found Guilty,  punished to the fullest extent of the Law. !!


Bail is not reasonable, given the gravity of the charges AND the likelihood that this wee creep will bolt for safety.
His passport should be confiscated and he should be held in remand until court time can be found to allocate to him.
In the meantime, he should remain in jail, as a threat to our society. 

Imagine that. Ian, I think we have lots of common ground.. and lots of NOT, but on this we agree.

I find it interesting that when I first saw it on our local News, he was identified as a Pakistani National, staying with someone in Vic, and holidaying on the Gold Coast...  and when the National News came on he was said to ' have been visiting from Victoria'. ???

Will be interesting to see if it remains of interest to "MEDIA" in the coming days. I would expect to be kept informed as to the actions of our authorities, but, I wonder. 
I hope he has NOT been granted BAIL, but I don't know.  I should know.!.
