Your Thoughts - Ipad vs Laptop vs Desktop
Jan 10th, 2016 at 1:38pm

This topic came up after my bossy sister won the day on buying a PC device for my older brother (now 81).

She insisted these Ipads are fabulous easy to use etc etc.

I being an annoying penis disagreed, I thought the old boy would be happier with a standard keyboard device. After all  he said i can use a type writer!

I think my thoughts turned out correct as he has had lots of trouble using the Ipad and still does.

In trying to be fair minded (not noted for that but neither is bossy sister I might add) I bought a Samsung version.

Its as useless as tits on a bull,  cant read the small text on Ozpol without all this zooming BS, Stupid keyboard idea is ridiculous.

My preference is a proper Keyboards and Screen although I have compromised using it with my modern laptop!

Thoughts and ideas please!

If all he wants to do is surf the web, watch some youtube, and check emails (i.e. he's not going to be saving Word documents etc.), then a Chromebook is the way to go.

Fast, reliable, with a keyboard, and no annoying Windows garbage.

Increasing text size is as simple as pressing "Ctrl +", and it remembers your settings.

I like mine so much, I bought another as a spare.

Too late he has been pushed into the Apple ipad, he has suggested he would like to smash the bloody thing, I will check out the Chromebook just for interest though! cheers

I have family members who swear a thing called 'Lenova' is the laptop boss.  I would be lost without what I have .....a desk top thing with the screen on the 'desk' and the engine on the floor.

I turn it on....it goes......I know if I push this button, that will happen.  I just scrape by.

I feel your elder brother's pain.

Nothing can beat an i7 desktop with:

a really large monitor,
a keyboard &
a mouse,
running Win7 or Win 10.

Except if you want to get something portable.

This is true, but my Acer i7 super-lappy gives a pretty damned good account of itself.

I've got an iphone, ipad, laptop and the beast (desktop),

I use each one for different things.

iPhone is on the go
iPad is in front of the tv or if I'm staying over friends house
Laptop is for trips away
Desktop is for gaming and uni

The beast is an i7 6700k, 16gig of ddr3, 500gb ssd, 10tb hdd and a gtx980ti - 4k gaming is awesome!

A surface tab may have been a good choice as it covers both.

You could also pickup a keyboard for the ipad.

I love my MacAir laptop. Very neat.

Unfortunately—i spilled some water on the keyboard when the back of chair fell off. Hope it can be fixed or at least the data rescued.

One can alway purchase a keyboard attachment to the ipad.

I have got:

x1 Iphone 5 - birthday present - looking to upgrade may be.
x2 Ipad air 2 - Christmas present this year.
x1 mac book air - basic model - Birthday last year.

Also using big brother's dear 'gaming' desktop since he moved out.

Guess its all free for me.   Smiley
