Could be much worse, for a conservative he seems to something going on. He once crossed the floor in support of his conscience while he has been mostly horrible since that it does show some small signs of a partially independent brain.

After all we had Tony Abbott as PM, after that how could anyone think any selection was strange or unreasonable.

Yes he is as dumb as xxxx but that never stopped Tony why can't the Nats do the same.

Crossing the floor is a Coalition stunt and should be discounted. When was the last time a Coalition MP crossed the floor and it changed the outcome of the vote?

The Nationals can do as they please. It's not as if their talent pool is particularly large or deep. They only get the representatives that the Liberals permit due to the Coalition détente. The last thing the Liberals want are good Nationals MPs. There haven't been any since Tim Fischer left politics.
