This is the answer? Safe rooms?

In the aftermath of the reports of mass New Year's Eve assaults in the German city of Cologne, police and authorities say “protection zones” in and around the city center will be installed by the end of this year.

Nearly five months after a New Year's Eve marked by the alleged sexual assaults and numerous petty crimes, the city administration and the police are preparing intensively for next year’s celebrations.

Last year, “heavily intoxicated” men of “Arab or North African” appearances flooded the city’s famous square between its Central Train Station and the Cologne cathedral, throwing firecrackers and setting off fireworks as the New Year was brought in, according to media reports.

With the festivities in full swing, some men reportedly sexually assaulted and harassed women and pickpocketed revelers, according to various media headlines, both nationwide and internationally.

Women hold up placards that read ‘We weren’t prepared for this’: Cologne police officer speaks out after NYE mass sexual assaults
This year, the city plans to establish special “protection zones” around the cathedral to ensure safety of the residents, according to Kölner Rundschau newspaper.

“I would like the cathedral and the Central Station to see no firecrackers and no rockets,” Cologne police chief Jürgen Mathies told the newspaper.

Other security measures include deploying more police officers and rapid reaction teams between the Central Station and the historic part of Cologne, as well as limiting “the uncontrolled influx of people” into the area.

Closure of the large Hohenzollern Bridge, the most heavily-used bridge on the Rhine nationwide, is also considered, the newspaper reported. However, the area around the Cologne cathedral will not be shut off, the authorities say, promising that dozens of protective barriers will be set up “to create a sense of security” among the residents.

The city will also have fewer unlit places as proper illumination could be important in case of criminal offenses to have usable CCTV footages.

The Cologne police say they will implement similar security measures ahead the upcoming big events in the city, such as Christopher Street Day and the Cologne light festival.

"We now know how it looked to the world, and we have learned our lesson," city manager Mathias Kahlen told Kölner Rundschau.

he Cologne police was subject to harsh criticism for its unpreparedness to deal with the alleged sexual assaults and other criminal offences amid the New Year’s Eve events.

"Eventually we had a situation where a large group of men were going after women. We did intervene and help. We have never encountered incidents like this before and we weren't prepared for it," a police officer told RT in January.

A best selling Algerian author warns that the “refugee welcome” culture is “naive,” and that Islam will fracture European society.
Algerian writer and best selling author Boualem Sansal paints a bleak vision of Europe’s future in his new work 2084: The End of the World, the title evoking George Orwell’s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.  Mr. Sansal sees a Europe —not governed by a totalitarian Big Brother as Mr. Orwell did, but rather —  subjugated by radical Islam.

Promoting the book, the author warns that the “refugees welcome” attitude that Germans have shown is “completely naive,” and warns of the perils of radical Islam on European society in a new interview, reports Kronen Zeitung.

Mr. Sansal blames what he calls an overly tolerant society as the reason for his vision of the future of Europe. He says that in Germany in particular that the experiences of the Second World War have made the nation an easy prey for Islamists. He told media that many of the radical Islamists in his native Algeria were forced out for their agitations against the government and many of them have found asylum in Germany.

Europe is experiencing a “return of religion” according to Mr. Sansal, who says that the problem is not just a German issue but pan-European. He claims that Islam is gaining more traction among the population in European countries and especially among youths.

Young people in Germany and elsewhere have even begun attempting to join Islamic State over the past year — some even committing attacks on its behalf. The author warns that the trend among young people will contaminate the entirety of European society.

The consequences for women in an Islamised Europe are dire, Mr. Sansal says. Women’s equality will be a thing of the past he claims, explaining: “In the Islamic universe, there is only a mother’s love, the love of God. In love, the women hide. The woman herself does not matter.”

Blaming the weakness of Europe to come to its own defence, he says that groups like Islamic State are using the tolerance of Europe against itself. According to him, the attacks in Paris and Brussels are directed at the Western way of life and shared common values. “You can not even defeat the weak Arab states, so they have brought in fifth columns to bring the West to destroy itself. If they succeed society will fall,” he said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did not escape criticism from Mr. Sansal.  The author sees the Turkish leader as trying to behave like an Islamic Caliph by centralising his own power in Turkey and trying to force conditions on the European Union to stem the migrant crisis.

Mr. Erdoğan has repeatedly threatened to unleash millions of migrants into the European Union if he does not get visa-free travel for Turkish citizens. The EU has maintained that Erdogan must reform terror laws used to prosecute critics of the government, but the Turks have stood firm against any efforts to scrap them.

This is a very brave Algerian, who I assume would be a muslim himself, unless he has over time become an atheist. He will I expect have benefited from the effect of over 100 years of French colonialism and its introduction of ideas from the modern world.

But he is a lonely voice among the millions and we can't realistically expect change in Islam to come from within through the influence of people like this. It just won't happen this way if it happens at all.
I'm glad he refers to Erdogan. Turkey could have been a model for the rest of Islam, as could Iran really before the revolution.
But Turkey is now headed for confrontation with the west. This dictator is hell-bent on the complete elimination of the secular in Turkey and the establishment, as this author says, of a caliphate and hegemony over neighbouring states.
And Merkel, who will rid Germany of this woman?, would not come to the Parliament and vote for the condemnation of the Armenian massacre.

How many in Turkey must weep for the memory of Attaturk.

As a result of the migrant influx to Germany, nearly a third of municipalities in a new study revealed that they would have to go into debt this year. A study, entitled “Refugee Integration: Challenges for German Municipalities”, surveyed 300 of 1,554 cities and towns with more than 10,000 inhabitants. Given it only sampled 300, and that there are large numbers of migrants in towns with smaller populations, the Berlin Journal estimates the actual numbers of towns heading into debt to be much higher.

The Berlin Journal revealed that most towns surveyed have already had to absorb any additional debt for the migrant influx. This year, however, 29 per cent of the municipalities said they would outright be driven into debt by the migrants.

The cities and towns surveyed said the influx of migrants would send them into €1.1 billion of debt. They said by next year, the cost of migrants to these municipalities is likely to go up by €70 million.
The federal government pays German provinces €670 a month per migrant. Some federal states give towns and cities money for migrants. Others, like Bayern, leave towns and cities to foot the bill.

The report notes that unaccompanied minor migrants command huge costs. In May, Breitbart London reported that regional governments were spending over €2.7 million on 65,000 unaccompanied minor migrants.
The municipalities surveyed said that by the year’s end, they will lack accommodation for 464,000 migrants. The cities cited a number of reasons that they were not prepared to receive a huge influx of migrants. Among these was the lack of forecasting for the numbers of migrants arriving, and a lack of suitable premises for them to live in.

In Autumn last year only 78 cities and towns had housing for at least 1,000 migrants. Now, 187 places report having more than 1,000. To accommodate migrants, municipalities said they had to use newly built residential housing, private accommodation, equipment containers, and properties such as former schools and barracks.

Overall the municipalities surveyed said that so far they are accommodating 836,000 migrants.

Seems to me this mass migration, apart from being a security and cultural threat, is also a de facto transfer of wealth from the western world, which has worked for centuries to create it, to the undeveloped ME & Africa which have wallowed in their own self-induced poverty for centuries.

But I'm guessing the "progressive" world will be cock-a-hoop about that.

Money has no value until its spent. Refugees are adding value as that money goes back into the community with a multiplier effect of 1.6. Lazy Euros are being put to work. Germany will boom.

While I am not surprised by the general "thrust"  Wink of the article, and hope Europe is waking up to what the Merkeloids have done, the last paragraph is pure hyperbole.

380,000 homeless people in Germany and quite a number have to sleep out and die in sub-zero winters. And towns & cities have said as recently as 2013 that they can't provide more accommodation.

But no effort is being spared to build new flats for single refugee men as well as leasing a great deal of private property. And Merkel's politicians have promised to protect refugees against the cold.

Work that out.

Oh and BTW, the refugees have protested against sleeping in heated tents.

Meanwhile a survey has found 74 % of the refugees are fit only for menial work, which means colossal welfare subsidies going forward.
