A fascinating debate:

APRIL 1, 2016
Munk Debate on Global Refugee Crisis Nigel Farage, Mark Steyn, Louise Arbour, and Simon Schama participated in the semi-annual Munk Debate on how developed nations should deal with the global refugee crisis.

Thanks for that, Frank.

Mark Steyn's 6-minute speech was a cracker. What an absolute thrashing he gave that dreamy-eyed woman with her comfortable cliches and wishful thinking. Buried her.

And then he got damned-near a standing ovation from the audience.

Breitbart:
As the weather improves and the Mediterranean becomes navigable by small craft the 2016 migrant season has got under way, with thousands having crossed illegally in the past week.

At least 5,000 migrants crossed from Libya to Italy last week according to latest figures, but none of them were from the recognised war-zones of Syria or Iraq, from which European states have agreed to take so-called ‘refugees’. The number crossing is expected to experience strong growth as spring develops and migrant confidence increases.

Figures from a leaked United Nations document seen by Austria’s Kronen Zeitung forecast will double this week, with 10,000 making the journey in just seven days.

A military intelligence source speaking to the paper said of the growth: “The weather in the Mediterranean region is now good, this week on the North African coast are dozens boats setting off towards Italy”.

While many countries in Europe have agreed to take so-called refugees from Islamic-State afflicted Iraq and Syria, of those crossing to Italy in the past week the vast majority are actually economic migrants, not refugees. According to the leaked document the largest group crossing are Nigerians at nearly one-fifth, followed by Gambians at 15 per cent, and Senegalese at ten per cent.

No Syrians or Iraqis are recorded at all in the leaked document.

The jump in migrant crossings comes just a week after Breitbart London reported on the large numbers of migrants massing in Libya ahead of the better weather. Around 800,000 were thought to be waiting in the country to come to Europe, a high figure to the 200,000 migrants who took the Libya-Italy route in the past 12 months.

Around 3,700 were killed on the crossing as their unseaworthy boats broke up or capsized. Some Christian migrants were thrown overboard by Muslim travellers once they reached open water, for which over a dozen arrests were made.
European militaries and coast guards are already busy policing the waterways as the unsafe boats make their way to Europe. Just last Wednesday 774 migrants were rescued  in the Strait of Sicily as their boat hit problems.

Alone in Berlin: How Merkel Has Gambled Away Her EU Power

Der Spiegel:

There were times when interactions between the German chancellor and European Council President Donald Tusk were more congenial. When Angela Merkel entered the conference hall at the European Council building in Brussels, Tusk would bow deeply and clasp Merkel's hand. He would then kiss it so intimately that even Merkel, who is used to all manner of obsequiousness, would look in quizzical confusion at the former Polish prime minister's bowed head.

On Wednesday, Merkel got to know a different Tusk. Once again, he sent Merkel a greeting, but this time he opted to use Twitter instead of his lips. He sent out a tweet thanking the countries of the Western Balkans for closing their borders to refugees and "implementing part of EU's comprehensive strategy to deal with migration crisis."

It was not exactly a gallant move from Tusk. For weeks, Merkel has been trying to prevent the closure of the Balkan Route, arguing that Europe cannot leave Greece alone to deal with tens of thousands of desperate Syrians trying to escape the civil war in their country. Three weeks ago, when Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann announced his country would only accept a limited number of asylum-seekers each day -- an announcement that led to border closures up and down the Balkans -- Merkel shook her head with concern. The move, she said, was "not helpful."

And now Tusk. The man who was only able to rise to the European Council presidency with Merkel's backing has now ambushed her.

It is yet another incident that demonstrates Merkel's loss of power. The chancellor has played a variety of roles in Brussels throughout her career. She began as a clumsy novice, but as a result of the euro crisis she ultimately became the most powerful leader in Europe. Now, however, she has isolated Germany in the European Union to a greater degree than any chancellor before her.
Germany has always had a special role in Europe. Helmut Kohl emphasized modesty in Brussels to reduce European fears of a newly dominant Germany in the wake of reunification. Merkel, by contrast, was not afraid of taking a leadership role and pushed through her strict austerity policies. In the end, though, she stopped short of throwing Greece out of the euro zone against the will of France and other southern European member states.

Defection to the Enemy Camp

Now, the fissure runs through the entire continent. Germany and France are estranged, Eastern European member states have joined Austria in an anti-Merkel alliance and European Council President Tusk has defected to the enemy camp.

Following Arbour's suggestion that the wave of Muslims from very conservative cultures might transform society for the better Steyn blasted back by asking which aspects of Afghan, Syrian and Sudanese culture she would like to see adopted, pointing to the countries' records on LGBT and women's rights, child brides, FGM and commitment to free speech.

Referring to the lines in Lazarus' poem that Arbour drew heavily from in her speech Steyn points out that rather than "yearning to breathe free", this wave of people from repressive cultures are driven by economic motives and the influx is resulting in unprecedented waves of sexual violence on European women.

Revealing the horrifying realities on the ground in Europe, as a result of the presence of more than a million refugees, Steyn described how "a fortnight after acing a training course on treating women with respect" a 15 year old Afghan dragged a Belgian caterer at a refugee centre down to the basement and raped her.

Crediting her as the first prosecutor to charge rape as a crime against humanity and the author of several reports on rape as a "weapon of war". Arbour looked uncomfortable as Steyn pointed to the 500 cases of sexual assault on just one night in Cologne and the gang rape children as young as 7 and even just 3 years old that have resulted from this refugee influx.

The madness is obviously going to continue - do something Herr Kohl:

Breitbart:

A minister of the German government has confessed that neither Germany nor the European Union (EU) has a real strategy of how to integrate migrants into European society, while warning that three million new migrants are preparing to “set sail for Europe.”
As Minister for European Policies for Germany, Michael Roth is the person in charge of coordinating Germany’s relations with the European Union, its policies and representatives. In an interview Wednesday with the Italian daily Il Giornale, the 46-year-old Social Democrat defended the recent EU-Turkey agreement for deporting illegal migrants back to Turkey, saying that “we have no alternative.”

“We have 3 million migrants ready to set sail for Europe and we must recognize that without Erdogan we have no ability to manage their movements,” he said. “And we have to grant him that, until now, he has been able to do with the migrants what we Europeans have been unable to do.”

Against human rights advocates who have criticized the agreement, Roth argued that Turkey “doesn’t treat migrants badly, although it could do better.”

As a Social Democrat, Roth find the rise in popularity of right-wing political parties disturbing but understandable, since the German government may have given “the impression of being fast and efficient with migrants while forgetting our electorate.”

The Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), a populist Eurosceptic party, “has gotten many votes from people who feel abandoned by the system,” Roth acknowledged.

Pressed on the failure of migrants to integrate into German society, Roth recognized that “integration is a national problem.”

“Germany can offer these people security and democracy. It is then up to the individual person individually to find their way in society,” he said.

“There is no single strategy for the integration of these people, or one model to offer,” he said.

Despite the ballooning crisis in European migration, EU migration chief Dimitris Avramopoulos has proposed that European Union nations open their borders to still more migrants.
Official recommendations from the EU Commission were sent to the European Parliament Thursday, proposing that more skilled migrants be allowed across borders, while obliging member states to accept set numbers of migrants.

The report recognizes that Europe’s migrant crisis has exposed “weaknesses” in the current Common European Asylum System, leading to a disproportionate number of migrants arriving into certain countries.

“The experience of recent years has shown that, especially in situations of mass influx along specific migratory routes, the current system places responsibility, in law, for the vast majority of asylum seekers on a limited number of individual Member States, a situation which would stretch the capacities of any member state,” the report states.

Angela Merkel has Jewish roots. Merkel was born Angela Dorothea Kasner of Polish Jewish descent.
The confirmation comes out of her own mouth. In the video she thanks the Knesset for allowing her to speak in her mother tongue which is not German but is Hebrew.
These are the exact words which she uses: "Ich danke allen dass ich in meiner Muttersprache heute zu Ihnen sprechen darf." It translates to: "I thank you all that I am allowed today to speak to you in my mothertongue."
