Lots of cases where shooting was mentioned before any Coroners reports on what happened, it has never stopped the media from reporting it-

Mythubusters have proved it's impossible to get out of the car until it fills up with water, I would say drowning is pretty obvious in this case.

They report what's known to them.

In this case, it's not known if there was a shooting or not.

He seems to think that if the police see a bullet hole, they immediately tell all reporters that the death was caused by a gunshot wound.

Case closed - off to lunch!
