Many things can cause a person to snap and do something out of character.  Maybe the vast predominance of women walking out on their marital relationships through 'not feeling validated' need to share some responsibility.

This society has a lot to answer for with its treatment of men to 'equalise' women.  You can trust me when I say that the day will come when it does answer.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time - but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Even when it's a man killing his kids, you find a way to blame women.

Grapps and I don't always agree but there are deep truths in what he says

This man took a decision to kill himself and his children - for this he must take 100% personal responsibility when he meets his maker

Even though it would not bring their lives back it would be interesting to know what the contributing factors are

oh of course... the wife nagged thats a goody....she demanded everything.....well almost...she didnt want sex more than once a month... another goody....she was always tired.. oh christ whats having two little boys....thats not work....she spends too much.. it drives me mad....

its all her fault.

come on girls list all your faults that would drive a man to kill his children........... Angry Angry Angry Angry

I SAID its not always the same thing...

Yes.

As I explained: depression, and being depressed are not the same thing.

It was his decision to drive his car into the pier. Factors influencing this

(1) His personal responsibility - 95%
(2) Influence from his wife - 4%
(3) Social influences - 1%

The "everyday bloke" sits in the Social influence box

I don't think these are the excuses Grapps was referring to

I have never said "its all her fault"

Read the section where I said he's 100% responsible for his decision to his maker. That doesn't sound like "its all her fault"

I said it would be interesting to know what the contributing factors are

As I have mentioned in the Domestic violence thread - the verbal abuse can have more devastating and lasting impact than physical abuse

Here you go.  http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/tributes-for-young-port-lin...

He was suffering from depression, apparently.  I read yesterday that there was a gun in the car when they dragged it up.  Nothing about it in the above article that I could see, but there are pictures of the man, wife and 2 sons.

Very sad.

I didn't see anything about the gun being in the car, it's not uncommon for guns to be thrown into the water from wharves.

The police told the senate inquiry into firearm violence that many stolen guns are thrown off wharves and into creeks and rivers because they do not contain the firing bolt because they owners were following safe storage regs.
A gun without a bolt is a deadly as a stick and worth just about as much.

Was he being treated for depression, if he was did the treating medical staff send off a S79 form to the Police?
Try google for S79 firearms act

"The white station wagon sank in up to 30 metres of water, with police saying the incident appeared to have been a murder-suicide.

"They said a rifle had been recovered from the car."

Thank you, Greg.

I did wonder what he did/didn't do with the gun and why it was there. The mind boggles!

It does sound like he was an undiagnosed Bipolar sufferer. His family said that he had "changed" in the last 3 years.

There are 2 "types" of Bipolar .....  Bipolar 1 and Bipolar 2.  One tends to strike when people are in their late teens or early 20s and the other Bipolar when they are around 30ish or a bit older.  (According to what I read about it years ago).

IF his family had been able to reason with him to seek help and get some medication ..........

He drove the car off a wharf and they drowned, I don't see the relevance of the gun in this story.

There are plenty of undiagnosed geriatric bipolar rednecks on Ozpolitic. Lucky thing their families have already escaped.

Maqqa, Aquascoot, doubleplusgood, soren, innocentbystander, Gizmo, Yadda, Bogarde and Andre Hicks come to mind. These people need urgent diagnosis and help.

I suppose you were diagnosed and have a Disability pension for mental illness, that would explain your idiocy.

Get a job and pay some taxes ya dopey bum

The Coroner hasn't said how they died, yet. We will probably never know.  I just thought it was odd to have a gun in the station wagon. Then he was a "farmer" (or his father is/was) so maybe a gun/rifle is always kept in the back of the car? Who knows?

He did, apparently, leave a Suicide Note on Facebook but that was removed immediately.  So, at least his wife has some idea what was going through his mind.

Killing himself is one thing, taking the little boys with him is unforgivable.
