Outrage over Australia Day products made in China

Aussie aussie aussie - oh oh oh !!

Mad in China - Designed in Australia. Malcolms Innovation policy already working Cheesy LOL

https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/30486114/its-quite-un-australian-outrage-over-austra...

Quote:
Major supermarkets have come under fire for selling Australia Day products that are made in China.

Shoppers were shocked to learn that Australia Day products like the flags, thongs and hats on sale at major supermarkets are made overseas.

“I would've thought we need to have Australian products in for Australia Day,” shopper Julia Featherstone told 7 News.

While labels read "Designed in Australia", they were manufactured far from home.

Dick Smith believes only Australian made products should be sold for Australia Day.

“It's quite un-Australian, I think the Prime Minister should bring in a law that says on Australia Day you can only have Australian made and owned.

“It means we'll only have a lamb chop and some Dick Smith peanut butter but it'll still be Australia Day.”

While at two major supermarkets on Monday, 7 News could not find a single Australia Day-themed product on sale that was locally manufactured.

The discovery was disappointing, especially because both retailers are partners in the Australian Made campaign, which supports local industry.

“The facts are people think they're buying genuine Aussie stuff and in fact they're not,” said Australian Made chief executive Ian Harrison.

Even the official Australia Day supplier 'Aussie Merchandise' - commits only to supplying "Australian made products wherever possible."

Some hats, for example, can only be sourced overseas.

To be sure if the product you are buying is Australian made look for the green and gold kangaroo.

Closet poms won't pay the premium for Australian manufactured products.

The only known exception is Map of Tassie Merkins. Now there's a product that could be marketed for Australia day if it was dyed in red white and blue colours.

Business is about making a profit. If you are in the thong or flag business, nationalism is just sentimentality. Buy cheep, sell steep, and move your banking off shore. Then you'll be able to get out at a leisurely pace. A country without borders is f***ed anyway.

We'd be better off not celebrating Australia at all. That would save 100's of tons of plastic rubbish ending up in landfills and the ocean Sad

Oh talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Of course we can still celebrate Australia Day.

Just don't buy the freaking merchandise. It's not as if someone's got a gun to your head forcing you to buy the damn stuff.

We celebrate the day with a family/friends bbq.

Given the numbers involved, that's expensive enough without paying for overpriced/overseas made junk.

Would save plenty of money that's wasted on fireworks too.

And, the streets wouldn't be full of vomit and passed out nationalists the next day.
