The Government should be involved where it can (though I am a large supporter of small Government and there being as little Government as possible) - but be involved based on a specific department level.

If there is under-representation of women in employment for example, it should be an employment issue and dealt with in that manner as opposed to a women's Minister.

I also believe in a completely open field. People get positions based on being the best person for the role, not because of their gender.

As a father of 2 girls, there is none more supportive of women growing up and being to do anything than I.

It's one of the reasons I was so disappointed that Australia's first woman PM was so poor - particularly when the best post war PM Britain has ever had was a woman.

I think it's an attempt to bring many of those issues under one banner, but to ignore the other 50% of the population is folly.

I can't agree there Andrei, I think Gillard was a fine PM that performed very well considering the internal and external pressures.
