I think any union that was cleared of any corruption allegations should be able to claim costs of appearing before the RC.

Seems fair to me!

What mechanism can be used? In a court of law you have to sue for recovery of costs.

An RC has no power to repay costs.

...that'd be their usual method of extorting the public by collusion

So exercising a legal right in the courts (if you are a Union) is extortion, but if - say - Joe Hockey does it - it's a legal right pure and simple?

No wonder cods thinks Lomax is a master criminal long after the charges laid against him were abandoned.... the ethos is that as long as it's a Union involved , their rights under law vanish or must be made to become deseperacedevos.... by 'law'.... Grin  Grin  Grin

Adolph Schwagman's Beginning of The Final Solution.... all Unions are Communist Criminals and are enemies of Der Auschtralian Volk!

As I pointed out - there is no legal right to reparation from an RC.

they would then have to prove they were honest in their representations. btw do u think someone found not guilty in a criminal case gets their costs refunded?

Why?  The onus is on the accuser, and a person not guilty can make claim for costs.. which never meet the actual cost.  Costs can be awarded in the case of a vexatious litigant.... so if a Union is shown to be 100% squeaky clean.... is not the imposition of a royal commission vexatious and based on nothing of substance?

You are pointing the way clear to changes mandated in our judicial system... perhaps you should call for a royal commission into the judiciary etc.... and into how royal commissions are handled and funded only to satisfy 'city hall'.

Lese majeste....

there is just so much you are ignorant of.  a not guilty person does NOT get their costs back. as for your assertion of a 100% 'squeaky clean' union, do you know how anyone comes to that conclusion??
