Australians should be proud of these movies

I've just watched 'The Pack'.

A really good movie that should appeal to a worldwide audience.

One of my all-time favourite comedy-horror films was New Zealand's Black Sheep ... absolutely hilarious!

More Aussie films ...

The Pack ... Road Train ... The Reef .... Black Water.

Romper Stomper's Daniel Pollock committed suicide by diving off the platform into the path of a train at Newtown railway station where I used to catch the train to work every day. Hopelessly addicted to heroin.

Years later two guys were shot in Indonesia for trying to traffic heroin into Australia (not their first trip).

Romper Stomper's Daniel Pollock was a casualty of the sort of people who profit from drugs crime.

Are you thinking of 'Don's Party", Herb? You won't find a better caricature of Labor/Liberal voters. Funny and still frighteningly relevant. Graeme Kennedy is hilarious.

Jedda, from 1955, deserves much credit, although it will seem dated today.

During the Australian Cinema Renaissance of the 1970s, three movies come to mind that are now almost forgotten.

"Age of Consent" with James Mason and Helen Mirren.

"Wake in Fright," also released as "The Outback" is an unflattering look at Australians.

"In Search of Anna," is a fine effort and very evocative of the 1970s.

Walkabout - 1971

Sort of like the Blue Lagoon but set in the bush (and no Brooke Shields instead teenage Jenny Agutter) with a father who goes nuts and an Aboriginal boy who ends up dead and eaten by ants. You might find yourself nodding off (I did) or spaced out (I did) but it is considered a "great film" and now you can impress your friends by telling them you have seen it even though you haven't.
