did i read that politicians in victoria have pisssed over a billion dollars up against the wall.

yet another reason why we should let free enterprise run nearly everything that they are capable of running.
free enterprise would never allow this to happen.

how pitiful  Angry Angry

John Useless Howard pissed $350Bn up against the wall. Worse than that, he built his profligacy into the Budget and so we are STILL pissing money up against the wall, money we no longer have! Talk about irresponsibility!

The EW Link would have sucked up vast amounts of money, money that would not be returned by the operation of the Link. Dumb!

That's news to the rest of the country. How exactly did he do that?

It is not news to the rest of the country.

As to how he did it, read JohnSmiths list of changes that should be made before increasing the GST is even considered.

Howard was both high taxing and high spending. This is not news, except perhaps to Daily Toilet readers.

That's true, politics makes it unavoidable though.

Had they gone through with the deal it would have cost more in "wasted" money.

except for two thing

1. He wasn't reigning in spending. He was cutting it from one place and spending it elsewhere. His PPL was still in play for one.

2. He was cutting the spending from the wrong end of town. he tried to punish those who couldn't afford it.

Well, the EW link was taken to the election with a resounding NO.  Even though the contract shouldn't be signed.  Even though the payoff is negative.  Etc. Etc.

Let em have their day in the sun bagging Labor.     The Daniels Government is doing great in Vic - they have lived up to all election promises to date and reversed some of the appalling Liberal Governments "Captain's Calls" that Ballieu/Napthine bought in.  As long as the Vic Libs stay in the basement of Vic Parliament house, Vic will be fine

Sure are - costing the State taxpayers literally billions in cancelled projects and stupid-ass public holidays for footy games. This may turn out to be the most wasteful Victorian government since Federation.

If the spend on anything Liberals hadn't locked in contracts for East/West Link, then there would be little money out of pocket.   That is one reason the sad-assed Liberals done here will remain in opposition for decades.   In one term of government, they nearly wrecked a great state.  It will take Labor years to turn around their mess.  Most of them have jumped ship anyway - they knew their party was stuffed.    Speaking of costing billions, did you hear the one about the senior liberal administrative bloke who flogged the Liberals slush fund from under their noses?      Not content with this bloke robbing the Tassie Libs blind, the Vic Libs hired him to do the same to them.!!!

Of course not. Do you think
I
want the young unemployed not able to access assistance for six months of each year? If that Budget had passed unemployment would have passed 10% by now easily. You know nothing, do you?

And that would be pinned on 12 years of previous Labor, yes?    What exactly did the Libs achieve in their one and only term that could be construed as a successful follow in for the present Labor government?

The Coalition Government in Victoria were just the pits!  I didn't mind Ballieu, I just felt his whole front bench were lacking and not supporting him.  Funnily enough, I quite like Turnbull, but you can almost see the knives glinting in the background
